and how do we do that? Do the el cheapo laser cleaner disks from bargain shops do the trick?

If you have a map disc, keep it in the unit and make sure it reads it.

If you don't have a map disc, see if you can get a copy.

All the units I have seen with a map installed in the DVD rom were an easy conversion. The laser seems to get dirtier with no disc installed.

Cheers

  • 2 weeks later...

A note to those that had their cars done in sydney by nagoya motors (or by revolution electronics) and had a local DVD video player fitted. if you CANNOT find your DVD ROM ANYWHERE in the car there is a VERY good chance it has been stripped to a bare board and shoved under the stock spot and between the glovebox.

IF YOU WISH TO UPDATE YOUR LANGUAGE SOFTWARE YOU CANNOT DO IT !!!!!!

90% of the OEM unit is MISSING! so you guys are stuck UNLESS you replace it with a used item.

I have a car here now from NSW with this EXACT issue. I am going to try other means of updating this one but I see it as a no go. the progam needs to reside in two spots : ON the DVD reader board and also on the main board.

swapping bits into the system from another stripped unit will result in a unit that will reboot every 5 minutes and ask for the jap language disc.

just a word of warning..

further point now that I look closer at this board:

the GPS gyro is also gone. so theres NO WAY to program this thing.

looks like I pass on this one.

(time for me to start my integration into this box by the look of this one.)

Been reading through this quite substantial thread.....

Just want to make sure that I've got my facts straight.

I've just got my V35. It's a 2005 S2 Premium Coupe.

My understanding is that as of today, the english conversion software patch is not yet available for the S2.

But. All being well it will be available from some kind outfit in Russia in the future.

Did I get it right?

:)

    • You've given zero info about your setup. Step 1: make sure all the standard equipment are working as they should. If they're not, go investigate why. Step 2: Make sure all your wiring is done properly. Know which RB20 you have, most likely "silvertop" a.k.a R32/A31 anything after 1989. Step 3: make sure your ECU is tuned properly. Standard will barely run in this situation.
    • Depending on your use case, prop valve will almost always be a better choice.
    • I think... in the US, Silvermax is the equivalent of BC Racing, i.e. cheap Taiwanese built suspension that gets turned for "local" conditions. Back in the day in Australia, you could get MCA street for about $1300 and they were awesome. Don't know about now... In saying that, my real world TEIN experience: I got some street basis z for my old Liberty (BR9), and they were awesome ($800-odd delivered from demon-tweeks in the UK). so Don't discount TEIN
    • yeah my RedBull X2010 on Grand Valley is only good enough for bronze... I can't hit silver arrgh.
    • 100% this. Long ago, I had a guy from the R31 club who set my BNR32 up (adjustable arms all round). He did an awesome job, was an after-work kinda thing where I had to bring a slab of beer. My car never drove better, and I stupidly got a random tyre shop to check the toe angles when I changed tyres, and they ruined the alignment. tl:dr- it takes a lot of skill to set up your car lowered from factory properly, and is worth paying the $200+ it takes.
