Cruzen
no - my tv tuner controlled via supplied remote control.my garmin uses another remote. in passenger kick panel. rom unit in upper glovebox must stay - that is the brain for ur trip computer and tv display. anything should be able to be plugged as aux input - best to ask audiospecialist - my advice can be wrong i'm not the expert i only give example based on how i believe my car setup is So how does the TV Remote control send a signal to the Aus TV Tuner in the boot ? Are you able to send me pictures of where the Aus TV Tuner and the Garmin Sat Nav sit in your car ? rs73
the aus tv tuner comes with IR receiver installed in the dash. in my car it's in the a/c display. this carries the remote signal to the aus tv tuner in the boot. the aus tv tuner is in the boot left trim panel need to remove it and it just sits on top of the japanese tv tuner. garmin is in the passenger kick panel where normally the ecu is. garmin uses RF so no need for an IR receiver don't have any photos, sorry. What about listening to Australian Radio Stations ? Are you just using the Aus Tv Tuner or do you have some sort of Aus Adapter ? Thanks you have been great Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/194126-software/page/36/#findComment-5013769 Share on other sites
rs73
Radio? of course you use your car's audio system. You need what it called FM Band Expander. usually installed prior to the aerial lead goes into the factory radio unit. My car has a 10 & 20Mhz step down band expander installed, which means it automatically step down all Australian radio frequency by 10 & 20 anything that falls within 76-90Mhz after step down will be picked up by the JDM Bose unit. e.g. Mix 101.1 is transformed into 81.1 and 91.1 but since 91.1 is over 90Mhz, my Bose unit will use the 81.1 Vega 91.5 is transformed into 71.5 and 81.5 but since 71.5 is lower than 76Mhz, my Bose unti will use the 71.5 So when my Bose display 81.1Mhz on its radio display, it's actually tuned to 101.1 Mix. Nova 100.3 is 80.3 on my radio, and 81.5 is Vega 91.5, 81.9 is Fox 101.9, 3M becomes 85.1, and Gold is 84.9 if u listen to oldies rock. Some band expander come in 16 & 32 step down, but I think that's just confusing to calculate what you're actually listening to. I find 10 & 20 is easier to figure out, but of course depend where you live, 16 & 32 may be better for your application depending what radio station you're usually listening to, because the idea is to transform the most australian radio frequency into the JDM's unit 76-90Mhz tuning capability. Of course by using 10 & 20Mhz I will loose ability to listen to anything under 96Mhz but I don't see that as a problem as I hardly listened to any fradios below that frequencies. If the car you're picking up don't have Bose unit, just ditch the unit came with the car and head to your local JB and get a DIN or double DIN unit. Don't bother with band expander unless you don't want to spend anything over $60-100 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/194126-software/page/36/#findComment-5013821 Share on other sites
Cruzen
All the cars I am looking at have the Bose setup so I am more than likely going to have to take the 'FM Band Expander' option. So roughly a FM Band Expander that has 10 & 20 mhz step down will cost me $60 - $80, How much do you think for the install ? I'm just trying to plan out in what order I am going to do this as it will be a little too much for me to have it all done at once. I probably will get the FM Band Expander and the Aus TV Tuner done first as I could probably get the installer do this at the one time. Jap to English Software - performed by you = $180 FM Band Expander $60 - $80. Asuka TV Tuner including antennas- $290 Adapting Leads from Chris - ? Installation of the Base Expander and Tv Tuner - ? ( I am hoping to have the above completed for around $750, let me know if you think different? ) I would then like to have a set of RCA's come up through to underneath the passengers seat to an RCA splitter with a switch or even 2 sets of RCA's as I believe the Asuka has 2 Aux inputs, so that I could plug in a cheap Sat Nav and a cheap DVD Player (with allows output into NTSC as I believe I need to use the factory screen) . ( I know this will be a bit messy and a bit of a pain to operate but it will get the jobs done untill, I can afford a Chris Rogers Sat Nav conversion ) Please let me know , what you think of my plan ? Also I cannot see why the complete conversion/install for TV/Sat Nav is around $3000 as I think I may have seen Chris mentioned, not doubting him as I think he is great but I must be leaving out something unless the navigation is the really tricky bit and costs over $2000 to convert/install + parts ? iamhe77
remove visible screws under navi panel.grab from left and GENTLY crack it out of place - get too rough and I'm not buying you another unclip ETS box 2 screws in navi unit - remove 2 screws rear botton of navi unit - remove. unplug/ remove unit. Hi Chris, Which direction do you push/pull it to? I assume the left side is "cracked" to the right and not "out" towards the passenger seat, yes? Does the left vent come with it or stay in place? rs73
I can answer that - left vent comes out too - it's part of the navi panel. left side pops out first - then... something not really mentioned in that instruction, is: once left side is popped out, you gotta wedge the right side out, if you pop up the navi lid up, you can see the round edge of the navi panel on the inside of passenger side vent's "frame" on the centre console. it needs to go out of that frame by wedging it out. when putting back in, make sure you wedge that edge into the centre console vent's frame, otherwise it will push into the centre vent and the vent won't turn up and down or it may get pushed the plastic could crack. you really need to take your time with it - it's the most delicate part to do there. but once you get the hang of it you should be fine. rs73
compass relies on GPS signal to determine which direction it is heading then it will realign itself. on top of that the car has gyroscope, which senses if the car is turning where GPS signal isn't available, e.g underground car park. on some cars where aftermarket navi has been installed and oem gps antenna removed to make way for aftermarket navi gps antenna (reason is oem spot behind climate control display is the best spot to get GPS signal) then the car won't know which way it is heading in a reliable way. if OEM gps antenna still there, perhaps the antenna has gone faulty or the connection was severed between the ROM unit and the GPS antenna. lankanrascal1
Hey guys, I'm having a bit of issues with mine. I just had the software installed by Andy a couple of weeks ago. Starting yesterday everything started playing up. When I start the car, everything works fine, then about 5 minutes later a message comes on going "Caution do not turn ignition off, do not take disc out" and then another screen 30 seconds later "Insert Program Disc" then like 5 minutes the screen resets itself and starts working again and then another 5 minutes later I get the messages again! Any advice or has anyone else experience this? Regards, Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/194126-software/page/36/#findComment-5029302 Share on other sites
