i have a r33 gts S2 and i wanna put a pod filter on it sometime soon. get a nice clean induction noise.

im on the new p plate laws which say no engine mods that increase performance

pretty much all my mates who are on the same laws have put poddies on but there all driving around in commos and fords, nothing really as cop attracting as a skyline

i know no one can really answer this but

do you think a cop is gonna slap a 3 demerit point and fine on me for just having a poddie!

i wouldnt describe a pod as an "engine" modification. intake yes, but i thought the vic approach was one intake mod allowed ie: pod OR intercooler. but i guess p's may be different.

also, thats so gay getting demerit points for a defect! i hope that isnt the case in nsw.

oh and cops can be absolute wankstars, so i wouldnt put anything beyond them.

ummm i dont remember reading that u cant have any mods that increase performance....

  • Eight or more cylinders;
  • A turbocharged or supercharged engine;
  • An engine that has been modified to improve its performance; and/or
  • Certain high performance six cylinder cars.

It is an engine mod that is seen as though it "can" increase kw rating by 1kw, thus if you get pulled over by a cop that knows his stuff, you will get done.

You obviously know the rules, otherwise you wouldn't ask the question. So if you take the risk, don't cry when you loose 3 points. :ermm:

The filter is an A360 right, same as on my Stag and the R31 I used to have?

You can get these replacement filters from Simota and K&N. (see my pic).

Same material as a pod filter, but in the standard box.

I've seen some other foam filters which i prefer the idea of, think they're made by uni filter

if memory serves correct. They have pod styles and panel styles im fairly sure.

i think he wants the pod for sound, i got one for my ED fairmont when i was 18 haha i thought it was cool.

im under the new laws too with my n/a.. havnt been pulled up yet then again mine doesnt make any noticeable noise.. cant hear it at all tbh i duno why, its a K & N pod too btw, could just be because the extractors and exhaust is making a bit of a noise and cancels it out.

from most people i have asked they say its ok to have 1 on a n/a, the cop would have to be a tight ass and if you act dumb / nice to the cop i dont think you will get done 3 points for having it on.

Well do some more reading i think :ermm:

Anyhow, look at it this way.

Its deemed to be illegal if it increases power. Now, its debatable if it will increase power at all (as POD) due to intake charge temps

This can only be tested by some back to back tests really.

End of the day if you get pinned, it comes down to proving your argument in court as thats where its going to end up, and it costs money.

You can do some testing yourself (to find out if your illegal or not), or just run the gauntlet.

I've found running the gauntlet is generally too risky, i saw this considering the new laws your faced with.

So if your willing to get it dyno tested before/after. And dont see a power increase, then its reasonable that you can make the mod.

If you make more power... then your in the shit if indeed you get pulled over.

Its good to see you driving the N/A and following the law in that respect. So props to you there mate.

You may not even get the induction / sucking sound as the car is an na. hence may not be worth it. Personally i think you will prob be ok, but seeing as the new laws for you guys are quite stringent you may just wanna spend the money on other (non performance) related mods, stereo, rims etc and not worry about performnace mods till you get off your p's. It may be worth a try putting one on and seeing if it makes any diifference in sound, but if not, better off just knowing its non-defectable. I have a blitz stainless steel one lying around (which is probably the loudest pod btw so if a pod is gonna make any sound it'll be this one...) so if you wanna try it out and buy it off me let me know.

Totally 4got to add earlier.

Had a pod on my R31 N/A and it definitely made a sound if ya put the foot down.

Wasn't a sucking sound, not sure what to compare it to but it's loud.

I've also got hks style pod laying around which has the foam and more of a vaccum/sucking type sound.

I got P's in May and already lost 3 points for "speeding" in VS clubsport, thankfully they saw the V6 badge on side and for some reason when he wrote the ticket it stated commodore 3.8L, so i was fortunate to be pulled over by no brainers.

Now i have my R34 25GT and first day i got it i was pulled over...ive had it for less than a month and all up i been pulled over 5 times!!! Live in Chaddy so theres plenty of coppers on the princess and warrigul roads (frankston/dandy too).

I like to test the cops myself cause im thinking of joining them (wanna join highway patrol) and i went in and spoke to another clueless cop that didnt even know what the new laws were! Theres so much confusion, i recon if a cop checked you, you could get away by saying you bought the car like this (pod inside) and if they can "lt you go" and youll replace it. Worst case is they take 3 points off and you get a fine, if you still have the other 2 from the 5 on P's then your ok,if you dont mind the risk.

Personally id love to redo my car now and find a RB26 and mod my car n go nuts! but obviously we can't, and with me on 2 points and all i cant even go 1K/h over the limit or im screwed.

P/s they can impound your car for up to 48 hours if they really wanted to aswell.

I don't think a Pod will do you harm... the VIC law states that you can only have 1 air-induction modification.

Please read the THREAD.

That is incorrect information for P Plater holders under the NEW laws.
