If it's already been engineered, it should mean that the test should have already been administered, thus not needing to go through it again. Probably means EPA will do the same thing but and double check it.

There's a decent engineer 1/2 way to the city... forget his name but. Near five dock or something maybe - off wattle st or something. Would possibly be a good person to talk to - shall see if can find details.

i got my old 180 engineered by TIC (transport industry consultants) was a few years back though and they were pretty good, I spoke to the engineer first and asked him what needed to get done before he would pass it, did it then brought to him and he passed it. in my experiance cops usually looked under the bonnet said ok and closed it even though 1 time id taken the box of the pod, give them the cert as soon as they ask you to pop the bonnet and it seems like they dont really want the hassle of defecting you, mind you I wasnt a smart ass to them.

nsw sucks, up here in qld so long as the filter is secure, and u cant shake it, thats all that is required... i remember when i lived in wollongong how much b/s i got... had to get emission test for my air filter, car was stock so of course it passed... but it wasnt induction noise they were checking, (hks pod, was very loud)

ben...

Guys i just thought id give you an Update on my Car ....

I have passed my RTA Defect ( Blue Slip )

I have passed part of My EPA TEST

Emissions test Done and i have Passed ( Thanx to hitman , That guy is a top bloke, Ive never met someone who spends so much time explaining things )

Noise Test For Exsaust ( Just passed It i think i got like 89 or something )

My waste Gate Arms - I dont know how im going to get it through this guys Head the arms arnt welded i put the screwdriver on the arm and i pushed it and the arms moves up and down which means its not welded , but he says The part it is connected to is welded so remove the weld clean it up i still dont get it but hey thats life

My main Concern was After i got an engineers certificate For my Air filter Box which clearly states aftermarket Box built with cold air intake , They will noty pass it for me AT DECC , EPA Whatever they are.. My main concern is i passed the emissions test, i passed the noise test ??? Why cant they pass this box , On the defect it says Rectify Air filter noise , i did the noise test and i passed ... Yet they will not pass this aftermarket box even though i had it engineered tested , It went through emission testing ... I got in contact with the engineer happens to be ( TIC ) He says there isnt much he can do bout it because the decc makes there own rules the decc has stated they will only pass a standard box ?? wtffff??.. Guys isnt there anything i can do about this ???

Now for me to pass i have to get rid of all my aftermarket piping because standard airbox wont fit with all my aftermarket piping. Ive had to borrow my friends Standard parts, Intercooler pipes and Air box ( thank god hes doing a rebuild ) i worked out i can still use my power fc d jetro ill just disconnect AFM'S .. But i mean guys even beofre i do all this isnt there anything i can do ?? I Mean i paid this engineer to pass all this stuff for me and al is well except for this filter box ? has anyone got any ideas ???

By the way i am posting all this stuff as well for future purposes for other people so i can help them clearing there defects and giving them advice ...

Guy any help ???

Moei, u know about my problem, i ended up finding the stock piping and airbox which i just bolted up and passed, but if i didnt find that what i was going to do was find the smallest stock airbox i could (ie excel or something) and modify that to bolt on as there was no way the stock box was going to fit with my piping.

My Neighbour at work did it for me he does exsausts it sounded like an excel when he finished with it , Yet the guy at granville still reved it up to like 6-7 rpm.. Trying to fail me but it didnt work... Jeff as you said he makes up numbers like if it was revving at 88 hed say to the guy 92 and im thinking in my head what the f*** is this guy on about ???

like im going to have to put some standard piping on to fit the standard airbox to pass .. what a headache..... luckily my friends car has been pulled apart....

I've previously walked up to a hidden defect station and asked the cops in there wtf is the go with defects. They said that basically: anything that's not standard gets defected unless it's engineered.

TIC... did my certificate too.

Seems like they just on a power trip, as legally i doubt they're doing the right thing. Maybe see if you can talk to cops or solicitor about it. Not the quickest solution however.

As far as exhaust noise goes; the local environment effects the reading. Sound resonates off buildings, etc. but is baffled by things such as open space/trees. Also; sometimes cars produce less noise at higher revs. My friend's car was tested at 4k rpm, failed. Then the engineer tried 5k, passed.

Some exhaust shops also do tests if you want a more legit/less corrupted reading?

yeah i had a talk to a EPA Officer he called me from his phone i explained to him my situation.. Mind you he was the one who defected me at brighton.. He told me first he absolutely loved my car , I Was quick to ask him about my enginners report on filter noise.. i Had a bit of advice from Anthony ( GUILT-TOY , total champ..) Who said if you do a noise test on the filters and it passes Legally i wont have any worries When i mentioned this to the Epa officer he kind of studdered , BUT He kept his ground He actually even told me guys you can even cut your stock box to fit into your aftermarket piping then patch it up and stuff but i find it hard to believe a standard box will fit in after you made such adjustments, I even had a talk to my solicitor about this ( Yes i was that pissed off He told me your 50/50 Chance in court depends what mood the judge is in , So i thought to myself its not worth it. My cars Piping is being pulled apart as we speak going to put some stock items back on to pass this friggen test .... Its frustrating though all the guy has to do is take pictures of the box and it will pass then i wouldt most likely be putting everything back to normal hoping never to be pulled up by the epa....

i thank you aagin guys for all the help... i just hope noone goes through what ive gone through...

Yeah, told you about this guy at granville....

Luckily all I had to do was an exhaust noise check....he wanted to do an emmissions test coz my car was a personal import and i didnt have my rego papers to prove that the engine in the car was the one listed on the rego when it arrived here.

everyone knows we'll end up putting it back to the way it was so why do they bother defecting??!!! :nyaanyaa:

Man the epa guy on the phone almost felt sorry for me ahaha why did he defect me then.. Hes like mate get it cleared then stay away from EPA Stations and if the cops pull you over pull out all your paper work lol...

Doesnt really bother me much as i dont drive the car much ive taken it out on a couple of skyline cruises and everynow and then city for a lap..

Its just running around like an idiot clearing shit .. i bet you guys these cops will never pull over any hotted up holdens they must really have it in bad for us jap boys.....

And that guy at granville i swear man he went through the whole car ... im like hello im clearing my defects this isnt the Pits lol.... life goes on i guess...

funny you said that about holdens, mate of mine had to get his car cleared at an rta kinda place in that area, might be the same place, got a v8 ute thats a bit of a shit box, exaust is nearly rusted through and leaky exaust gaskets through out and he said the guy skimmed over it and pased him right away but there was a guy with a honda there that looked like he wa getting reemed

where abouts was the epa station you got done at, i know harry's pie's in woolamaloo (cant spell) is a known hot stop for them

There's a defect station they set up out the back of castle hill...

They pulled my mate over in north parra and made him follow them there. They radio ahead (i know because i walked into the place once to ask them a few questions... they got a bit of a shock when i walked up but :P )

If they try and take you there... maybe run outa fuel and tell 'em they can inspect it another day :)

Ahaha.. Im having problems fitting my standard box back on as i have aftermarket piping which gets in the way totally , I May have to use a different Make of box mabye a holden or ford one will fit as long as its plastic , Do you guys think they will tell the difference????.. This has been a funny 3 weeks ..... Good experience....

Does anyone have any ideas about fitting my standard box ?? if you want to see pics of my engine bay its on the for sale section .. mabye you can get a better look there... Thanx for all the help...

    • 2 spots that my exhaust guy joined the 2 pipes together  Made a big difference. I'm now able to live with it. I can make it louder if I want by removing the HKS caps.
    • Hi all, considering clutch upgrade to support 1130 engine hp from 1650cc injectors on e50 at 85% duty cycle (1650 x (11.85/14.7) x 85%). Narrows down to these three as they can be converted to use gm 26 spline input shaft if I ever want to use transmission with that input shaft (orc1000f and r3c easy/cheap just change center hub; tr2cd pricier must change clutch discs). Pricing orc1000f similar to tr2cd, r3c about usd 200 pricier. Orc1000f triple plate 200mm. Tr2cd twin plate 215mm. R3c triple plate 215mm. Claimed max torque : orc 1000f 723 lbs ft; tr2cd 800 lbs ft; r3c 1100 lbs ft. Why orc1000f triple plate but claims lower max torque vs tr2cd twins? Is orc1000f underrated? Any info maxing out these clutches? Info on street/traffic driveability/pedal feel? Thank you for any info on them.
    • Some troubleshooting, connect up a timing light/gun with a proper ignition lead on coil 1. Hold the revs at 4~4500rpm and see if your timing is all over the shop, scattering off its tits. If so, there's a high chance your CAS is fked. But I read you have a Link ECU ready to go in, why not just skip all this and put that in - will make troubleshooting so much easier.
    • Misfires when the car is fully warm are generally attributed to the coils (and/or the igniter, on cars with a separate igniter). They can stop working properly when they get hot for a number of reasons. Either electric/electronic, or from thermal expansion opening up gaps and allowing HV leakage. Seeing as you have replaced the coils, that could/should rule them out. But I wouldn't always assume so. Were the coils genuine? Or is there a chance you have bought some counterfeit Chinesium shit? Then we're back onto loom connections. They can fail when warm/hot for the same reasons. Inspections, cleaning of contact surfaces, ensuring that terminals are fully inserted, etc etc, are all justified. The same (heat effects) holds true for the other electrics and their connectors. AFM & CAS, primarily. If you try that Chinesium AFM, drive it around on low load until it is properly hot, but do'nt give it more load than you have to, except when you need to see if it will still miss. I'm dead serious about the untrustworthiness of the calibration of those copy AFMs. Injectors are unlikely to get hot unless the fuel is coming back around hot. You could try squirting them with compressed air or freeze spray to cool them back down to see if they are maybe the cause.
    • Alright, all the plugs looks good. Noticed that it starts to get bad when the car is up to temp, that's when things starts to misfire hard. next to do is Injector cleaning and such. Got in touch with a shop to do work on the injectors next Monday also help on diagnosis.
