Intercooler Upgrade

Just want some advice on what i should do for my first engine upgrade on a 1996 R33 gts-t. i was thinking for now purchasing an intercooler and getting it installed. Dont want something too expensive or too cheap, just want something good for now, what brands does anyone recomend. is there something i should do as well or should that be it for now, cheers.

If you car isnt going to run 10 seconds then buy a JustJap intercooler kit off Ebay or just the cooler and have piping made up for your application.

why not just an r34 gtt SMIC? should handle ~200 or so rwkw, and get a non-restrictive turbo back exhaust with highflow cat. AlexCim has a 34 cooler for sale, i think he wanted 150 for it.

well everything except catback and smic is actually gonna go on at once, after i find a good boost guage and the labour cash

Get your exhaust and intake system sorted first.

A larger intercooler and larger diameter piping will result in a drop in response on a stock car.

Bring up the boost a little then think about an intercooler.

Not really needed though for anything under 180-190rwkw.

well i got a 33 as well but i done these mods and i was pulling out on stock boost without the front mount about 180 rwkw....so my advice is to do this:

* full turbo back exhaust system

* a high flowing pod or pannel filter

* clutch if its manual and you do give it a bit

* splitfire coilpacks

* trust/greddy front mount intercooler theses days sell for around $600-$700 with piping

i got a few more mods planned but not as of yet

DONT FORGET THE DUMP PIPE. www.gktech.com.au has dump pipes for 100$, and fronts with flex pipe for a similar price.

get a hybrid kit for r33. about $650 or so from traders on these forums. Good quality cooler, without the price tag of some of the jap ones. Trust kits are good also and not that expensive. I personally think that a r34 cooler is a bit of a waste of time to be honest. Just do i right from the start and it will give you plenty of head room later on. HPI had an article on modding a 33 gtst including the cooler upgrades, was a couple of issues back. worth looking at.

Unless you are planning on upgrading the factory turbo, I would recommend against a front mount. I made the mistake before, it's not necessary on the stock turbo and you will notice a definate loss in response from the factory setup.

As suggested, an r34 side mount is the way to go.

Then the tuner this is what a want and how much I have and what KW can I get from my cash.
