Just a tip man, be very careful of Car Mate. If they are sending it anywhere for you just be aware that they don't organize freight insurance anymore and thats assuming they get it to a point where they actually HAVE your part in stock.

Just a heads up.

I heard they were bad as well until I picked one up for cheap in its brand new raw condition. Got it painted and fitted with flush mounted bonnet locks, it was really good quality the sprayer loved it as it didn't really require any work except a quick sand a prime and a spray...

Looks great on and lines up perfectly.... I should post some photos up... Got i painted gloss black. AB style for a ecr33

The only thing I didn't like was the vent mesh they used it was a but flimsy for me so I'll get some black security mesh folded to fit to match my FMIC mesh...

I was really quite surprised but the fibreglass finish was great...

i got a fibreglass drift wing lip for my r33 from them, and it was great, havent had any issues with it at all, and lines up perfect!!!, ive had it for a year now. Varied opinions i guess.....i have to admit, i had to get my spoiler imported to nz, and had to organise shipping back then aswell, and it was a bit of a pain, the guys kept mucking me around for ages.....in the end all good, the final product outweighed the hassle i had with the people.

:D

mine was fine.

the only thing that i regret not doing before i got it painted was i diddnt open up the bonnet vents more with a die grinder. thats it. the paint was premo and never had an imperfection.

allways drop your fiberglass bonnet never push it from the nose. as it might start to spiderweb crack in the paint from the constant pushing.

Dropping the bonnet to stop the paint cracking, really?

I would really have to drop it to get it to close, they are really light so there is no weight to get the latch to react...

I would of though dropping would give stress cracks as well....

If I was you I would believe people with first hand experience not people who heard from a friend or read somewhere..

I too had doubts about them from what I heard but you speak to people with their product and all is good...

Keep in mind it will need paint as well, a couple of hundred more and you can maybe have a CF one...

thats a pretty rough statement considering many people in this thread have been happy with their product... maybe we should start a poll to see what sort of ratio of good and bad expereicnes there have actuallt been...

I'll start

1 vote for good fibrglass bonnets from carmate, even though the company name sounds gay......

I have never bought anything from CM, but I think they have a very good variety of kits and anything to do with cars for that matter... and from what I have heard... they are very good...

Good luck with that mate.

I helped a mate fit his kit from carmate, went on without any problems, though was a little thin on the fibreglass in some places.

I bought a kit from else where and both sideskirts are two inches to short, so I haven' bothered to fit the kit

and I bought it 1.5years ago, it is still sitting in the box.

    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps
    • Does anyone run this kit with factory plenum? Does the adapter and bosch tb fit under factory strut brace? I wanted to get this setup before going forward facing manifold. Thanks
    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
    • Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments
