hello everyone, well i have been visiting this forum for about 12 months and finally went out and brought my stagea last week. i am now the proud owner of a 98 series II RS4 V. it is as stock as they come but i have the touch screen tv dvd combo. i brought it from an importer in adelaide and it has only just done 60,000km and is in mint condition. just getting used to the very poor fuel economy i think about 17L/100km. this forum got the stagea over the line as i was originally looking at a legacy so keep all the usefull information coming. will keep everyone updated as the mods start appearing. cheers all, Dave

well it has been while driving like a grandpa and i only got about 450kms from an entire tank on the open road. So ok then off to a dyno place to have the heart beat checked. i have used mildrens and rpm for a previous car but i have no idea who the best "skyline guru's" might be in adleaide. i know how important it is to have the person looking at ur car actually intersted in what they are doing. also what is the best way to post a few pics. im pretty proud of my new ride.

14-15 is the best I've ever got, 17 is typical for me and thats with new 02 sensor and an hks fuel cut defender to lean it out a bit. About to put a pfc in will see what we get with that.....

there are some good shops in Adelaide who know skylines, best to search or ask in the SA section. I think tillbrooks is one of them and boostworks? Anyway have a look around you will find a few options on here

boostwerks for sure (in pasadena)

15l per 100km is around the mark.

if it is 17l then either you're a fat bastard (JOKE) or you need to replace the O2 sensor plugged into the dump pipe. they go spastic (generally) after around 40000kms.

safc can help with fuel:air ratio (hence better power and economy once tuned)

for pics I use photobucket, others use other image hosting sites such as file shack etc?

... i have never heard of a stagea getting 12l/100km but good luck trying.

Cue in Pixel8r!

I've got an S2 as well and get about 15-16L/100km all city driving. But i think the missus doesn't drive very light footedly, not that she boost or anything, just that she tends to press and release throttle :D and she uses the car 95% of the time. The 5% that i use it is spent boosting mostly so i can't complain. Was definitely hoping for better consumption as the more fuel efficient Stags seem to get 12 around town.

Hi dmonic1 and welcome to the forum!

For all of your tuning needs, and pretty much anything mechanical on your stagea, head to Boostworx! They know their stuff and will give you an awesome tune at an awesome price. Although, if you're wanting a tune, you'll probably want to get an Apexi SAFC first so there is actually something to tune. Cant do much with it when its stock, just base ignition timing and thats all.

As for fuel economy, dont take too much from my figures...

I've been averaging 11.5-12L/100km daily driving to and from work etc. (about 30-40 mins both ways). On the highway its around 10.5L/100km.

The lowest I've seen is 11.3L/100km city and 9L/100km country...

Why so low? well firstly, I have a bigger turbo (GT30 - see my sig), exhaust, SAFC, and the boost is fairly low at the moment...which all adds up to give me really good fuel economy. This comes at a cost and that cost is responsiveness at low revs. I wouldn't say its slow by any means but just not quite as quick onto boost as when it was stock. It will start boosting from around 2500 rpm but wont hit full boost (currently 9-10psi) until about 3700rpm...

The bigger turbo means its off boost when cruising around town, which is why this is where I see the most benefit. In the country I dont think the car is on boost anyway so that hasn't really changed.

Its still a lot quicker overall than when it was stock and will keep up with your average latest model V8's in the right conditions.

However, coming into summer now it struggles a bit in the heat (not much torque until the turbo kicks in - only downside of the RB25's etc) and my fuel economy figures are up a little - closer to 12-12.5L/100km and power is as expected for hot days with climate control on. :(

The easiest thing to do to help fuel economy is get a 3" turbo-back unrestrictive exhaust, a boost controller, and apexi SAFC (piggyback ecu) and then a good tune. Not only should you see a 20-30kw gain at the 4wheels, you'll probably be getting better fuel economy at the same time, due to the free flowing exhaust and safc to tune Air/Fuel ratios.

Good luck :D

hey pixel8r, i reckon we either work or live in similar areas cause i have scene a really nice white stagea drive in the opposite direction to me a few times on Grand junction road. im actually in clearview and work in athol park and regency park.

omg this forum is killing my sleeping habits. i am staying up for stupid hours throughout the nights trying to decipher all the information on here. trying to understand what is relevant for a series 1 or 2 seems to be half the problem with all the posts im reading

i am very aware about the need of an aftermarket comp or piggy back for tunning as i have a very modified TX5 Turbo sitting in the garage with a haltech in it (defected now cause of a stupid woman cop)

im pretty good with spinning tools around a car but i think im in over my head before i even start with these cars. from what im reading the stagea's seem like they were made at nissan from the spare parts bin and it all seems a bit hit and miss at to what fits and what doesn't.

Hey mate, yeah i rekon i did have a chat with you at scs!

The Stageas are very skyline based in alot of there parts, so generally getting anything you need isnt hard when you track down the relevant part numbers. Dennis at Boostin Oz does all my work and i would highly recommend having a chat with him. Tell him i told you to get in contact and he will look after you, he's use to playing with stageas because of me...lol.

Cheers

Ben

not sure if thats me or not in the white stagea. Mine looks completely stock and is a series 2. Very rarely clean :) unfortunately doesn't get the regular washes it deserves :(

I go to and from work via main north road. I live in the Salisbury East area (east of Main North Rd) and work at Mile End. ;)
