shell vpower racing (previously called optimax extreme or something). It contains 5% ethanol as far as I know.

not to be confused with the normal shell vpower which is 98RON and contains no ethanol.

there's more to it than just the ethanol content, you can get 91RON with 5% or 10% ethanol now.

ethanol is a non-issue as far as i'm concerned, although the more they use from renewable sources the better. the main number i care about for the safety of my engine is octane.

91RON and 98RON, with the timing set to handle the 91RON?

It'll run like a dog. mine came with 18 degrees timing, and i put it back to the "proper" value of 15 degrees so it didn't ping so much. noticed a big difference in part throttle performance, WOT would be the same because the ECU just runs as much as it can without pinging.. but it'll ping a few times to find that limit if you're running too much advance and i don't like the sound of rattling marbles.

seriously I think they should get rid of 91 RON fuel completely and replace it with 95RON as regular unleaded. As most manufacturers have discovered there is superior power-economy and cleaner emissions running high comp and advance curves.91RON just limits things

isnt this all just babble?

we all know the benefits of using 98ron fuel,

but the tune is the most important thing. its all well and good to use 98... but it is worthless on SOME cars if it is not tuned for it. now the r33 s1-2 are recommended to run no less than 95 oct (says so on my bonnet).

shouldnt this argument be over then. run over 95ron guys. :S

fyi, i only use the caltex 98ron fuel, aparently its pretty good
