Hey guys, i am based im Brisbane, and am in the process of complying my 88 cefiro.

My engineer has just told me there is a 4 to 6 week wait on ADR approved seatbelts.

Does anyone have any seatbelts or know anywhere that i can get these ASAP, as i do not want to wait 4 to 6 weeks just for seatbelts.

Seatbelts must be ADR approved, i am willing to pay good money for these.....as this is the only thing holding me back from getting my ceffy on the road.

Any info would be greatly appreciated

Thanx guys.

erm...

ok dude... here's the score...

i have RECENTLY got my cefiro over the pits in WA which i'm sure you think is irrelevant but i can guarantee you your engineer is feeding you horse poop

cefiro standard seatbelts ARE adr approved based on their hydraulic retention system. phone up the ADR agency, they'll point you in the right direction. to the best of my knowledge to this date there is nothing non ADR about your seatbelts

rather than chasing your tail trying to get seatbelts that (trust me) don't exsist. get in touch with your licensing dept in your state, ask to speak to the "tech" dept. ask them with regards to cefiro seatbelt compliance, they will either have an answer for your or will be able to help you with this further

the reason i'm knowledgable in this matter is because the "pit" inspector told me all about this how the nissan cefiro is one of the only japanese imports that HAS seatbelts that ARE adr approved, because they operate on a different system.

think of it this way, your car is trying to impress a governing body. your engineer is a third party in this matter, what he says is not the be all and end all. i'm sure he/she means well by changing the seatbelts and this is merely a case of them assuming every seatbelt needs to be changed however with the a31 nissan cefiro to the best of my knowledge this is not the case,

please foolow up this matter with your governing body before trying to go down this thankless and expensive and labour intense task.

i'm not guaranteeing you success here i'm just speaking from recent experience =)

15 year old compliance is different from state to state.

My Ceffy is registered 100% legitimately in VIC with no seatbelts having to be changed (front or back). In NSW where my dad is, its required to have the seatbelts changed to ADR approved ones (aussie A32 maxima seatbelts are the easiest to source). I really couldn't be f**ked jumping through the hoops of NSW's arcane registration system, so the ceffy's remained with VIC rego, even though it lives in NSW for most of the year.

So Mr Eps, regardless of what goes down in WA, it doesn't apply in any other state. All signatories in each state are instructed to follow the state vehicle standards guideline. unfortunately this guideline varies from state to state. You can negotiate all you want, but you can't change the state law... not unless you go thru a long political process or court process anyways.

SEVS on the other hand (non 15yr old imports) are a national set of rules and laws so all states must follow the same rules.

sorry dude, didn't quite get what you meant. yeah ADR's are federal, but in addition to complying with ADR's your car must also comply with state vehicle standards guidelines to be registered. its the state guidelines that fark ya up re seatbelts in QLD and NSW. its the same guidelines that say a pod filter is OK in VIC, but not in WA.

Hi

I was put onto a firm called ISASO (07) 32003988 who I bought some belts through, think they did compliancing. It was a while ago so not sure what they are upto now. I had to ask for Steve out the back.

The belts were nothing special, no shoulder height adjustment.

Hope this helps.

its the same guidelines that say a pod filter is OK in VIC, but not in WA.

sorry to get off topic but they are all good over here so long as they are securely braced =)

...we actually get away with quite a lot over here...

...BACK on topic!

  • 1 month later...

There are many reasons why his compliance workshop may be saying he needs new seatbelts cefiro seatbelts are ADR approved as they have the code ELR-VW on the seatbelt tags but his seatbelts could be worn, frayed, not dual locking anymore the fasteners not securing properly all requiring new seatbelts to be fitted.

so....... if your seatbelts are all mint and the tags on them say ELR-VW or ELR-VWII then your engineer is having a lend and trying to gip you otherwise you need to source new ones :D

    • From there it is trickier. Ecutek seems to be one of those closed ecosystems where everyone password protects their tunes which means I either choose a tuner and can't change from them and can't make any changes myself for any reason, or I have to buy the tuning software (about $4k) and then get someone to tune from scratch (which is not simple with all the multi dimensional tables these days). Once you buy about 300 "flash points" per ECU you can get it tuned and add their "RaceROM" function which hacks extra functionality like launch control onto the ECU, and also makes extra data available for logging over CAN Not sure what I'll do there yet; I'm tempted to use one of the overseas shops that does billions of remote tunes of the platform instead of starting from scratch locally, a lot can be done online these days.
    • Can I log IAT eh? Well, can now So next thing was looking at data logging. Not straight forward because none of the motorsport displays have cracked the nissan/inifinti CAN and ECU based displays don't do g logging, lap timing, predictive laps etc.  So, I bought an Ecutek dongle from Tunehouse (Oz distributor). Even without a tune onboard that allows display and logging of about 50 parameters via Android (and presumably iOS) app. Approx 600 for the bluetooth + Usb version That gives me (pretty ugly but) functional dash display on Android And logging of these parameters I'll play around a bit over the break, but at least now I can make sure I have oil pressure when I get to some track testing.
    • I don't know what globes/headlight connector they run, but I'd be looking for a female adapter to plug into the existing headlight on one side. Something like this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/256017245989 Then I'd use a pair of single input, double output relays (one for low, one for high), mount them in a spare space in the fuse box if you want to to look more original (and be easier to maintain). Then 2 new power sources from the main stud in the fuse box via a fuse to each relay. Low from the headlight adapter pin triggers low relay and high from the high headlight adapter pin triggers high and low. Earth the relays and new headlight sockets and off you go. Because it triggers off the original headlight all of the dipping/hi on/high flash all still works
