Christmas Drive

It has come that time of year when there are more christmas parties then there are....well, anything. So i'd thought we could add another date to the calender. A few of us have already started discussions as to when, how and where to have it. The general idea is to have an enjoyable drive, have some lunch in some little country town and then drive home.

We are looking for suggestions if anybody knows of a great road that leads to a great place for lunch (cheap pub style maybe?). As for dates, obviously next weekend is too soon, plus several people are heading up to Autosalon; and the following weekend there is a hillclimb on sunday. So that really only leaves the weekend of the 15th and 16th because the next weekend is too close to christmas.

So, what we need is a prefered day and a location. Fire away any suggestions, we could possibly even make it a coast run?

Also, everyone needs to keep in mind that we are not a proper car club, so anyone who attends does so at their own risk! Freakin PLI.

Coast would be ok, or even just as far as the Nelligan pub (fight off the bikies hehe), or there's a pub at Gundaroo but I don't know what the drive is like though... umm dunno what else off the top of my head... will have at think about it!

I'd love to go a for a cruise using the same route and approximate time that you as an individual are going.

Somewhere down to the bay for fish and chips sounds good.

Assuming the car is running, day doesn't matter at this time.

If you're in for a bit of distance, there's the model shop in Braidwood with the place that does woodfired pizza which I mentioned yesterday, or perhaps the Robertson pie shop which is a popular cruise destination from way back. It's also a stone's throw away from Kangaroo Valley.

Down south - anything as far as the snowy mountains I guess

I'm pretty sure it was Gundaroo pub that I heard had awesome lunches, but like Two L Shell, I don't know what the drive is like.

Braidwood sounds good and if we leave early enough*, the coast also sounds good

*smallprint - so yes, I'm also interested in going for a drive around the same time as everyone else to a similar/same location and grabbing a bite for lunch

And the coast trip sounds good. Done that many times. But any drive to anywhere is fine with me. Would it be just to the bay, or go that little bit more to ulladulla and end it at mollymook beach. Guess it depends on if we want waves to look at huh.

either day is good for me, but i picked saturday so i can have a lazy sunday.... dont think corrin dam is open, wont be for a very long time. shame, its a nice location. coast would be good, but will be very busy and probably not an enjoyable drive with all the traffic.

I used to live near Adaminaby in the mountains, if you want an awsome drive, go via Cooma to Tumut, have lunch in Tumut and well there are a couple of options to return. Believe me, its an awsome drive, I used to hook up there in the olds Forester, soo much fun. Plenty of other roads around there, you could even go down to Thredbo from Tumut bia Khancoban for another awsome drive then back through Jindabyne and Cooma. That would take the whole day and some awsome driving, scenery and photo ops. I would be working that weekend, but whereis should show you the way.

Still waiting on the engine, had some issues with the head, Not to sure i will have the car back by then. But my vote is for saturday. Could always steal my sisters(can we get it dirty down there?) lol.

Hopefully if i get my car put back together and on the road before said dates, the Saturday option looks good.

Coast, Kangaroo Valley, Cotter all good locations, just as long as its a good drive. Haven't been on a drive for a long time due to work commitments. Would be good to meet up with everyone and cruise.

So, it looks like we are going on saturday.

I had a look at the cruise routes on the ACT section of EvolutionOz (thanks for doing the hard work guys) and have narrowed it down to 2 options:

1- We do a coast run. But, for this to be fun we would have to leave here early have lunch and drive back pretty much straight after to miss the traffic.

2- We take scott's option. It is reasonably long 494km, but it looks like it could be pretty fun. I can't see that there would be too much traffic along the minor roads either. We also have the option of which direction to take it.

494KM's?!?!?! geez thats a lot in one day! i'll go if the majority goes, but that seems a bit much for just a "cruise". theres also going to be a few people object (like Mick...) on the issue of fuel. his car will go through 2 tanks in that distance, mine will do 1.1/3. the question is, how many of us can afford $150 on fuel just before christmas???

im not trying to be a whinging little bitch, but those are factors which much be thought over. would tumut have a servo that would even sell 98 octane fuel?

choice 1, Cork Street Cafe for where I'm told you can find the best pizzas ever

choice 2, at a restaurant called Grazing at what I think used to be the old Royal Hotel

We can plan a longer trip in the new year, maybe make a weekend of it at an event i.e. A track day in Sydney or Vic.
