Timing Belt Problem

my timing belt {i think} is making a loud noise on idle, it sounds like there it is rubbing on something its a course sound hard to explain, but as soon as you go anywhere above idle the noise stops

i just got my timing belt replaced about 2-3 months ago, any ideas?

Take the timing cover off, if there's any rubber dust from your timing belt then it's probably rubbing. Make sure to mark you CAS before taking off the cover.

is it possible to take the cover off without taking any other belts and bits off? had a quick look seem to be more bolts right down low

The cover will come off easily, there are 3 bolts for the CAS, and about 3 other bolts for the cover. It can be a little bit fiddly getting to the bottom bolt as the fan get's in the way, but can be done.

yep. you have to remove the cas. remember to take note of its position. and there are 5 bolts that hold the top section on, one in each corner and one right in the middle.

i know that if the belt has too much tension applied they will make a humming/vibrating noise.

its probably to tight or to loose and needs minor adjusting... push down on it with your finger and see if its the same tension as the other belts... for a temporary fix you can buy a belt dressing that will stop the noise, its about $8 or $9 a pressure pack.

If its making a squeaking sound then its probably too tight. My timing belt does this. In a long run you may ruin bearings, seals and even the timing belt.
