Just recently I got my car serviced and every now n then when i'm idling at lights... the car suddenly shakes and feels like it drops. It's very slight but noticeable... don't know if i'm just being paranoid, but does anyone know why that happens? Is it coz of new oil?

Another problem I sometimes get is when im doing say 30km/h and want to crawl a bit faster and SLIGHTLY press down on the accelerator and hold it, i get a fluttering sound like "pht ft pht ft..." then when i press down a bit more the normal engine sound kicks in and it goes just fine...

i  someone reassure me!

Thanks

i think i'm having this same problem. only started recently,

On idle there is a faint shudder, can be heard through the exhaust lightly as well, car has also started to backfire just a little which might be related.

ahh race_snooze u gave me an idea. u say afm... i have a pod filter installed with no heat shield or support (its just like... hanging there), i wonder if that could be it.

...unlikely...

i reckon its the coil packs, it seems that if the coil pack/packs are bad there will be a loss of fire to one or more cylinders, which could cause drag on the engine and cause that "shudder" I sometimes get. apparently it can shut down some engines completely :S.

T187 do me a favour and get your coil packs checked, then tell me if that's the problem lol i'm a bit strapped for cash atm,

is it just me or do camry's and accord's not get these kinda problems?

lol

Im a bit strapped for time!

my cars pissing me off lately, first it was missfiring, turned the boost down a touch and all was good but still was not totally gone, so next step was coilpacks, went out and bought a new set, then the problem dissapeared for about 2 months, so i still have them rapped up in the box, then a couple weeks ago i noticed the slight shudder so im not sure what it is, planning on changing the fuel filter, undoing, redoing my piping, and seeing how that goes, replacing the coilpacks(however i checked the plugs and packs after i had the misifre and they were fine, no hairline cracks)

i'll post up when im done with all this work, now to find some time!

you could always swap for a charade, 3 cylinders FTW!

just an update, i got round to sorting out my car today, did a compression test(all good), went to change the plugs but nobody suppplies them here, they're NGK r7119-8, might have to get diff ones as these are pretty expensive and hard to find.

so bolted the old ones back in, (before i did i carefully cleaned/sanded the ends down as they were pretty dirty and built up), had new splitfire coils but decided i would put them in when i change the plugs, so all i ended up doing really was cleaning the plugs, Problem gone!

no more hesitation that i can notice and also my missfire at 3500-redline is totally gone! for now anyways

    • Oh wow, it's easy to forget how cheap these can be. Probably the cheapest way to travel. Though people in cars here tend to be morons and I would not feel very safe. Were scooters ever big in Australia? It used to be the thing growing up in Europe ~20 years ago. 50/70/125ccm Peugeot or Yamaha and some others. Utterly obnoxious Polini race exhausts. Kick stands that slant as much as possible. So loud. So much noise for really not moving very fast at all. But it felt cool at the time. Not sure where I'm going with this, but there is an aftermarket for mopeds! Though I'd have pictured you more for a Goldwing kind of guy after growing out of the Harley.
    • You need to know I am sorry for this.
    • As the MX5 isn't apparently "manly" enough, and I need something for runs to the local shops, and also take to my part time job at the salon, basically I can keep the MX5 away from car parks and stuff......like "flying lockers", I was wondering what I could buy to fix this issue LOL, I pick up a new Yamaha 125 Delight this arvo from Trooper Lu, basically a R1 that you can fit a slab of beer on between your feet, also, it was $29400 cheaper than a R1, so actually it's 2 x better than a R1
    • Nah. H2S. H2S is "rotten egg gas", which is what is associated with no cat. SO2 is equally nasty, and if you've ever smelt it you'll know all about it. More of a choking, acid in the back of the throat sort of thing. But you can only smell it in a narrow range up to about 1ppm. Above that, it irritates your mucous membranes, but you don't smell it.
    • Kicked the 34 in the guts, she won’t be seeing the road till I get the 31 mobile again.  wont be long and she’s a bit of a garage princess anyway haha
