Need A Quote On Freight Within Japan Please? Help!

Recommended Posts

and yes agreed :)

I think perhaps the bloke wants to send to tokyo maybe to use kiwi? I guess if this guy is in QLD it's worth using kiwi, they charge 200USD extra for non-running cars. but again, if it costs you nearly $2000AUD just to get it to tokyo or osaka, then it's not worth it. better to figure out a solution where it is now. :)

The guy I am getting the car through (Australian guy), has a shipping container in Tokyo and that's why the Japanese guy (i.e. the one that tells me it'll cost 180000Y to get it to Tokyo) wants to send it there, so it will effectively come via container, not roro.

The Japanese guy told my Aussie guy that roro is not an option at Kanda, which beer Baron clearly has shown otherwise. Now, I will send him the link to this thread... :)

Of note, the guy in Australia I am using I trust 100% and have bought many, many things from.through him. It's the guy in Japan, or his freight contact that I am sceptical of.

btw, Beer Baron and Carizma - thank you for your contribution to this thread, as with m3gtr - you've all been invaluable help thus far.

ok well that makes more sense. if your mate in Japan is in tokyo, and he wants to load the container there then that's fair enough. it will still be better if he can just load the car as a non-runner in kyushu. where are you shipping it to in aus?

maybe just ask him to try other avenues for freight to tokyo. 30,000 seems pretty cheap. I would say even 50,000 is reasonable? I'm guessing the guy in Kyushu is the guy you are buying the car from? or was he acting as your agent and bought the car for you from yahoo on your behalf?

"it will still be better if he can just load the car as a non-runner in kyushu" I agree completely. Originally when we bought the car, it was never intended to go in a container, as you'd all know, roro is the most common way, for good reason.

My Aussie guy tried to get it sent straight out of Kanda, but the Japanese guy (located in Saitama) said it connot be done. You have proven otherwise, quite clearly. The Japanese/Saitama guy was acting on behalf of my Aussie guy, who was on behalf of me, if that makes sense.

Mate, 30000, 50000 or 180000...it's not a hassle to me, I have the money...but I don't want to be ripped off over it...nor do I want that to happen to my Aussie guy either...he's a good mate of mine...he's sceptical too...but we have nothing to 'prove' ourselves otherwise

you know saitama is a long way from f*kuoka right? this may be way he needs/wants the car moved to tokyo. saitama is a prefecture just adjacent to tokyo prefecture (on honshu). f*kuoka is way down south on kyushu (where kanda port is).

it seems possible the japanese buyer (i assume he's your buyer?) has bought the car for you in kyushu (f*kuoka) but since he is way up in saitama maybe he can't easily arrange the car to be loaded in kyushu as perhaps he doesn't know anyone down there to do it?

Yeah mate, I'm well aware of the proximity of it all...without question...however if that was the case, it still does not explain why he says he cannot ship the car out of Kanda - when your photos clearly state otherwise?

Even still...he should advised us that is the case and I would have made alternate arrangements. Even a someone like me with no contacts at all and half a world away, I have found other options. Booking a truck at the cost of 180000Y to someone else, specifically after they have advised they will find their own freight...is beyond me.

If this was me, I'd have contacted a Japanese customs agent to handle everything on your behalf. There are plenty of English-speaking ones out there, maybe someone can recommend it for you. If you've paid for the car already, it's rightfully yours and you can do with it as you please. You said you bought this at Yahoo auctions? Was there anything written about the terms of shipping? If not, don't let them push you around like this, start to take control of the situation and they'll realize your not as green as you possibly seem.

custom's agents aren't that expensive, and are well worth their cost.

Hey David - thanks again for your contribution.

Ideally I would like to do that...I am still waiting for my Aussie guy to get back to me about what we're going to do with regard to getting it here - in the interim I want to do as much reasearch as possible. I have the number for Mitsui, NYK and K Line and will call them about shipping roro out of Kanda. I also have the number for Australian Customs and will see if they can put me onto a Japanese Customs agent...fingers crossed.

In answer to your questions:

- Yes, I have paid for the car and also the cost of agent bidding for me etc. The car is mine and paid for.

- Yes, I bought it at Yahoo auctions, and no there was no terms of shipping...there very rarely is, as you'd know.

- I'm doing as much as I can, but I do not want to offend or affect my Aussie guy in anyway, he's always been fantastic to me and I will continue to go through him in future.

I'll call the shipping companies, customs and then my australian bloke today and I'll post the update...like I said, it's possibly too little, too late...here's hoping

Update:

Out of all the shipping companies, the only one able to advise of a roro ship leaving Kanda is K Line. Vessel Sierra Navada Highway Voyage number 6 leaves on 4/12. Mitsui & NYK could not help.

I am still trying to find a Customs Broker in Japan...this would be alot easier if I spoke Japanese!
