Hi All,

New here, and looking for a bit of advice if you could spare it. I own a V35 Skyline 250GT Sedan which was imported from Japan. I recently noticed a knocking noise coming from the left front wheel whenever I turned or reversed round a corner slowly. It almost sounded like a worn CV joint, but being a RWD car it doesn't have a CV joint.

Either way, I took it into the local repair shop to have it checked out, and they told me it was the shocks that required changing. The only problem is that the automotive repair shop told me they've searched far and wide for replacement shocks (geniune and aftermarket) for the V35 skyline, and haven't been able to find them (I'm from Auckland, New Zealand). Effectively they told me they can't do anything for me unless short of me asking Nissan NZ to specially import some shocks in for me, which would of course cost a fortune. They even went as far as saying that they've had 3 v35 skylines in and they've been nothing but trouble - a black sheep in the nissan family as it were since parts were impossible to get.

Either way, it'll cost me a fortune to get geniune shocks from Nissan NZ, I figured it'll be cheaper to buy aftermarket shocks off ebay for the G35, get them imported here and get them installed. I've searched the various g35 forums, and the only shocks I can find that suit the G35 and are on ebay are Tokico DSP-7's. So my question really is: Given that these fit a G35 sedan, will they be guaranteed to fit a V35 Skyline Sedan? I positive that they will, but I want to double check, since I don't want to fork out money for no reason.

If anybody has any good advice for me, for example where I can get suitable shocks from, or if there are better shocks, I gladly would welcome it.

Thanks in advance.

Gene

Thanks to both the above replies. You won't know how much that has helped me. So thanks!

So far I've taken my V35 to two pretty well known repair shops here in New Zealand (Pit Stop and The Shock Shop), and both have contacted their suppliers who have reported back that they don't stock any shocks for the V35.

350z shocks are a direct fit mate, I'm running 350Z tein Super Streets, really good for daily driving.

Regarding the tein Super Streets, I noticed that you've got a V35 Coupe. Would these fit on a V35 Sedan which I have?

Thanks again.

Gene

Sorry mate i didnt realise it was a sedan, if they are nething like previous skyline models they should but i dont know for sure. You could try cross refrencing sedan and coupe part no.'s from us website perhaps? Only other thing i would be concerned about is correct spring rates as i would assume the sedan is slightly heavier in the rear end.

I had a quick look- and the part numbers for Tein Coilovers for

350Z Coupe and Convertabile/ G35 Coupe/ G35 sedan.

all the aftermarket suspension can be shared both with 350z and v35. but for 350z shocks is about 3/8 shorter than v35. as for spring, the rate is higher in the rear than v35 which is more stiffer.

If its compatible, and you're just after dampers, I can highly recommend the Koni Yellows.

Before I put in Tein coilovers I ran OEM springs in my Z33 with Koni Yellows, and they were great. On full soft they're softer than stock. The car was a bit floaty but it rode so nicely, and since they adjust bound and rebound together with the valve when you stiffen them up you get better response everywhere.

The rear adjustment valve is on the side of the strut, so all you have to do is jack up your car enough to get your arm between the tyre and the guard. A lot better than most dampers that have their adjustment thingy at the top, which in our cars means drilling through trim or pulling the strut out.

  • 5 years later...

CV joint crackling sound from front passenger side.

I had same issue with my 300GT and it was not the shock absorbers.

It was an issue with VVT (variable value timing). According to techs it is a common fault with this gen skyline.

Luckly i has mechanical insurance. Engine needed opening up.

1 year later my shock absorbers are now leaking.

I can fix the cam actuator without opening the engine or removing it. Definitely a common issue but more likely caused by running too thin or thick an oil. Of the many times I have heard the knocking from the actuator only once have I had to change the unit. The other times I simply filled the engine with a fresh batch of 10w40 and it went away.

Get a set of BC coilovers, cheaper than replacing the stock shocks.

I thought that the suspension between the 250gt and 300/350gt was slightly different. but for a 350gt i know that 350z parts are compatible. mum has yellow konis in her car front and rear and it makes a huge difference. its firm but not twitchy. the valves in koni shocks can also be adjusted softer, if the manual adjustment isnt enough
