In my point of view the Sr20 is a very good engine. Especially for its time... and definatly an enhansement from the CA18 (unless the CA18 is modifed).

yea my s13 had a ca in it... i went that because i didnt want to replace the rods and bearings every 2mths ;)

The Sr20 came out in 1990 correct?

And did 1990 pulsars have an SR20 installed in them? No only the GTiR's (which were already turbo)

Therefore the engine was placed in both of the cars turbocharged at around that time (silvia had turbo SR20 in early 1991)

It wasnt till late 1991 that the n14 pulsars came out in SSS (Sr20) non turbo edition.

I wasn’t aware they came out in the Pulsar's until 1991, well there you go learn something new everyday :D

I just can’t take an all alloy motor serious when it comes to serious power ;)

No argument they aren’t better in stock form… I just can think of better motors I’d want to own (I’ve had an Sr20 before). That I think we all agree, they sound pretty… crap.

How about the massive "BRAND NAME" stickers people bust out along their window, for things that are loosely related such as "well i drive a holden piazza so i'll put a HSV sticker on" or "my car has stock speakers, made by clarion, so i'll advertise there product for them in 800pt letters."

VT commodores with shopping lists?

PS dig ur sig, thats awesome

I remember years ago I saw an Excel with huge TURBO stickers that took up the bottom of the doors on both sides of the car. He nailed it beside me and it was definitely not turbo (no induction noise and slow as hell), but it DID have one of those godawful "turbo" tips on the exhaust... It also had an enormous spoiler, and when quizzed he explained that it was for "traction off the line".

We have an Excell simmilar to that here in Ballarat , Huge wing, Greddy and HKS stickers plastered all over it, a hot pink interior and to top it off a bloke drives it.

lol at the army men, i think anyone who needs to advertise the make of their car in ginormous letters (800pt) somewhere on the car, its like, we know its a holden...

guy at my work has a huge holden sticker either side of the car down the bottom of the doors...

and there are plenty of them out that way lol :)

Yeah, but its been like 20x more entertaining surely!?

of course it is.....

but tonight was following a old 88 ish pular with a cannon, 20 kgs of rust and an autosalon sticker...go figure...

while drivin through Inala I saw:

VP commonwhore with chrome hubcaps(chrome flaking off), metallic salmon pink paint, one of those supercheap cannons and get this....

400KW stickers made from maskin tape on the back AND sides and those lightning bolt style SS badges from a VX/VY. It was a v6 auto. Even though I was driving my sisters barina auto I still felt cooler than him. :laughing-smiley-014: :laughing-smiley-014: :laughing-smiley-014:

Oh and while in victoria about 5 years ago I saw an old holden ute(not sure what year probably mid seventies) pi$$ yellow paint, more spotlights than a kenworth, aluminium side skirts, mudflaps front and back, roof racks for guns, bull bar, and enough rum stickers to cover the whole rear of the car and back window and to top it off he was wearing an akubra hat at 11 pm at night.

hi-lux surf with twin cannon mufflers and a fake 600x 300 FMIC (no piping but has the silicone joiners) HAHAHAHA must work up the road from my work and i had to walk past it this morning, laughed all the way to work..

TezGT-R - you can see that same ute and 100s just like it in toowoomba every friday and saturday night, lapping the main street. i once saw a ute with two giant aerials turn on to the main street and they were still swaying side to side 200m later. bogans. other utes with mack mudflaps and anything up to 12 aerials...

one of the best threads on sau imo

anything with a pic of me is

Mate, I hope somebody snaps you in half and jams u sideways into a chinese muffler and turns the key on and revs the little snot box up to 6500rpm and burns your poor, sad, little man syndrome butt!

Buzz off if your not interested in adding relivant material.. :P

on topic:

Spotted a poor sad VL ss yesterday. being driven very hard by a backward hat wearing noob with 3 dweebs. 2 different chromed hub caps, black front bumper which was half ripped off, pass door was kicked in and only 1 of the 4 brake lights worked. But the humble old 5L sounded pritty darned good for her age! it had a custom puff of oil smoke on gear changes.. the sadest thing was it had chopped springs. it was bottoming out everywhere on our wonderful roads!

Love the topic haha.... Cos you know as your are typing something you are laughing to yourself cos you know that someone wh HAS that car is probably going to read it lol....

Just when I thought it was getting back on topic... time for a cleanup

Mystery kid, a word of advice - having a laugh is all well and good, and a bit of ribbing is great... but there's a not-so-fine balance between humour and irritation, which you've managed to land solidly on the wrong side of. Give it a rest.

Yea thanks Marc..

I saw an old muscle car in the wreckers the other day that I used to see when i was yonger..

It was a real machine in its day. was a tuff 351 (I'm not a ford man either!) shacker, B&M shifter and trans kit, big wheels(for its day), big exhaust and all the usual guages. The wrecker bought it for..

get this.. $1000. the guages are still worth that!

Now thats a car that should be put back together and put back on the street! We will swap it for 15 snot rockets.. hahahaha!

    • Out here E90s are the cheapest way into a sporty-ish car because everyone knows just how expensive the repairs can get. 8-10k USD for an automatic 335i.
    • Noted. Have noticed BMW are more 'high maintenance' for sure. They've attracted my attention as I think the used car prices seem reasonable vs other options, and the extra quality overall vs a commodore / camry / corolla or similar of the same vintage is appealing, especially the interior, and they are more on the sporty side whereas the others mentioned can be more cruising or economical A-to-B only.
    • Haha yeah I know, this is SAU after all, why are we talking about BMW's of all things!? I hear you on the 'don't have to worry about it' side of things. Having been fortunate enough to be have been able to buy a brand new motorbike or two...never really enjoyed them as much as I'd have liked as you worry so much about where you park it, will it get scratched, stolen, attempted theft, knocked over, etc...and yes dirty. Older less valuable bikes you can just go where you want and park it wherever and not really worry that much in comparison. And who cares if it gets dirty! Never owned a V8, and have had my eyes on VE / VF commodores for years but with their prices climbing so high, the M3 has come into focus more as prices are much closer than I've ever seen...is it a potential contender now?...of course need to factor in the S65 'maintenance' especially and like you said general M car 'tax'. One can dream anyway. But more on the reality front - did read the whole 330i thread as well and was a great read too, both threads enlightening as I've never even driven one of these cars! I do recall 330i didn't seem to have the same amount of issues for almost the same car (turbos and related differences notwithstanding)...perhaps down to getting it earlier in it's life so looked after better than the 335i? Perhaps so as your 130i has been good and quite similar, so finding a car that's been looked after well is the especially-crucial-BMW-first-step.
    • Nice. Dont worry about the time of not running. My current skyline hasn't run since I bought it. About 8 years ago.
    • It's also worth noting that I am heavily and unconditionally biased. I've had a lot of cars including some GTRs a fair while ago. I love my BMW's now a lot. They make no sense a lot of the time and the guys on here remind me regularly that I could get something else that does what I want better and cheaper. If you're going to take on an older BMW it's definitely a commitment. If you bail on it early you'll lose money and also the ability for it to put a smile on your face. Stick with it and it just gets better.  f**k I should get into advertising.
