I bought a 1993 nissan skyline hr32 gtr v-spec this year in march. Since buying it and being the first owner in austailia.I noticed faults with the car like the engine cutting out after accelleration and pinging noises coming from the motor. I had the car inspected buy 2 independent repaires. The first repairer told me to take the car back to were I got it from because of engine oil leaks (they had trouble locating),faulty suspension and a leaking brake line. The importer then fixed these faults and told me that the oil was splashing out of were the oil dipstick is located and it was because of the way the engine rotated and it just need to be fastend down. The car was then involved in a minor accident and had front end damage. The importer told me to get it repaired down the road from his workshop at the panelbeaters were he got his cars repaired.I picked the car up from the panel beater after repairs and on the way home the engine detonated and smoke started to come from the exhaust.I had the car inspected buy a second indepented repairer who told me the engine had oil blow through and was wrecked. I got the guy who imported it to rebuild the engine. He told me he would get a second hand block which came with a warrenty and use all new parts bearing, rings, gaskets etc.I got the car back off him after the rebuild he told me not to take the boost over 1 bar and to bring it back to him after I had done 1000kms for a oil filter change. I did that and about a week later was on the freeway driving the vechile and a poping sound came from the motor I heard noise of something going through the exhaust then it stared blowing white smoke everywhere.I had the car towed back to the importer straight away.He had the car for 2 weeks and after ringing him numerous times he told me that he would not cover the engine for a broken piston and that it was my fault for not getting the vechile dyno tuned. He sold me the vechile without a computer making it imposible for accuret dyno tuning.I told him when I got him to rebuild the engine that I wanted him to do what ever it takes to insure my car wouldnt have anymore problems.I have now taken legal action any advise?

My useless advice would have been join this forum months before you buy a car like this to know more about not getting caught out like this!

My second word of advice is to use proper punctuation to allow for easier reading and take notice of the inbuilt spell checking function to fix misspelling.

Third, your screwed if thats your story in court. A vehicle with no ECU cannot run for a start!

white smoke blowing sounds like a blown turbo from running boost too high

stock ecu should handle 1 bar boost easy as all ya need to do is remove the restrictor without using a boost controller to get that

My thought was turbo exhaust wheel too, with white smoke and the sound of bits going through the exhaust.

was the car driveable yet shit after this, or not at all?

if a piston has been munched then its the fault of the rebuild... Did you get receipts for all the parts?

yo, he told you "not to take the boost over 1 bar and to bring it back to him after I had done 1000kms for a oil filter change" right, did he tell u you would need the new ECU before you could drive it?

Is it using standard turbo's? If your running standard boost, on standard spec internals with standard turbo's then you having a boost controller won't make any difference..

Im guessing you only had 6 months warrenty on the car and that it has run out?

I have a feeling you will win this one because the car has been dodgy from the start and you bought the car with the boost controller, so it is not up to you to tune anything. The car should be roadworthy to drive once it left the importer.

If you installed the boost controller or modded it in any way then you will probably be screwed.

From my understanding after purchasing a car a few months ago your warrenty is paused from the time you return the car back to the car yard for repairs and starts again when it is back in your hands. So lets say you buy a car and drive it for a week and return it to the car yard for repairs and they take 2 weeks repair it. Even though you have owned the car for 3 weeks you have only used 1 week of your warrenty due to the other 2 weeks of it being back at the car dealer getting repaired.

Hey hey turboX Dont be so harsh on him hes obviously not as smart as you when it comes to things like this.. we should be helping him not bagging him .....

good luck

Jason if you need anyhelp Pm me ... I know people who have gone through this sh**

    • Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers
    • Do Alan and Keith work on Skylines now? I remember buying stuff from them when I owned my Ralliart Lancer a few moons ago. Definitely genuine guys and be excellent if they dealt with the skyline platform as well.
    • Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
    • I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.
