The death sentence is a bit hypocritical, you kill them as punishment for killing someone. :)

The violence in Melbourne and the rest of the country is only going to get worse in my opinion. They need to bring in tougher penalties. Just like how they're cracking down on 'hooning'.

We're debating about whether we should bring capital punishment back to Australia in my english class.

The question is though, if we bring it back, doesnt that condone murder?

And what does that teach the offender?

Don't want to start a whole debate here but just some food for thought.

It's another all too familiar tale.....very sad.

Poor kid's family.

Maybe your next inclass debate/discussion could be how the 1950/60's australian model of a multi-cultultural society has evolved into this gangland/ghetto we now call home. A stronger effort toward assimilation might have worked...less differences to cause division ect.

A lot less americanization of our culture ..tv/food/clothes. Wiggers with attitude, we could do without them all.

Far too many us and them attitudes in Aust 07

What tougher penalty, than take a life... loose your own.

Fair enough if you ask me.

If you out and out kill someone, no point being locked away for your life... time to say bye.

Whilst there are arguments for either side etc. Im for the death sentence for rapists/murderers and so on.

With any luck, the stupid will learn that its NOT ok, you will NOT get 8-10yrs with good behaviour.

Where do I start with this as I can't say too much. Yes crimes like this are on a major rise. In last 6 years in my job serious crimes like this, armed robberies and serious assaults up about 1000% from my personal experiences.

Also about 90% percent of these offences have been committed by recent immigrants/minority groups. Things like problems in noble park with Sudanese in media recently are only going to continue to rise.

Courts are a joke and all the criminals who have been to court know that so have no fear of punishment. The biggest problem is with youths as it's almost impossible for a youth to get a prison sentance. If the offender for this is 17 or under he would likely get 2 years for it. When these children commit serious offences such as armed robberies and stabbings and don't get any jail time what do they learn? NOTHING

please keep in mind we dont know the full story and we never will, its was 8 Vs 3 (3 guys 1 girl) and the 8 has been drinking (cans of confidence) and we all know what that leads to.... trouble

depending on circumstances there could turn out 2 be very minor charges laid, if the video shows 6 surrounding 1 person and is attacked then the victim pulls a knife and defends himself, sadly resulting in the death of some1 then i cant really see a jury finding him guilty of anything...

this sends a message to every1, when you are out and about drinking or not, just pull your head in n let something slide, your never know what the person ur mouthing off at has folded in there pocket or holstered under there jacket, n even worse is roadrage, its mind-boggling the arsenal ppl carry in there cars these days if u ever exit ur car and approach some1 elses your nothing but an idoit and when u end up in court in bandages sooking about how u copped the rough end of the stick, once they hear that your approached you will recieve no sympathy....

Just around the corner from where I live in BH. Before I was even living in this area there has been stabbings ive been aware of near here. Too many 'wanna be thugs/gansters'.

I dont think the death penalty is really necessary. But I do believe a proper life sentance is required. EG: you kill someone willfully, you literally spend the rest of your life in prison until you die an old man. Or at least take away the early release for good behaviour and make a life sentance 40 years rather than 25. Something where there whole life is wasted for what they did. Getting out after 10 years for killing someone really is a joke.

Pretty much what I was thinking. Giving the death penalty is a bit much in my opinion. They should just increase the number of years in the 'life sentance'.

apparently they were having a slab between 8, thats 3 beers! :nyaanyaa:

chinese lady got killed....gun shooting at CBD.....and now boxhill stabbing.....

thats why i think gov should start to do something about it....

and i strongly support that tougher punishments such as life sentance and capital punishment are necessary regardless the age of criminals....

Yeah, but we pay for their life imprisonment.

Death is cheaper.

Do it like they do in China, where the family has to pay for the cost of the bullets and firing squad... I would like to see the death penalty bought in for pedophiles and child rapists as well, but make it a slow painful death, none of this merciful crap, they didn't show it to their victims, so why should they get any from society?

I was at that 7-11 about 10 minutes before that stabbing occurred (one the way home from a course at Box Hill Tafe) but didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

I agree, bring back the Death Penalty for 100% no question convictions. I think people who commit a crime deserve to be on the receiving end of the crime they committed. Fu(k all this politically correct BS, things like that are the reason we have so many crimes like this, because there is always some group trying to protect these criminal or the justice system just doesn't work.

An eye for an eye is the answer...and don't try and tell me violence promotes violence because it's fear of punishment that will prevent it!

    • Just something I found searching for more info on Emotion R, apparently the ECR33 Skyline GTS25t was either originally black, or there were two of them, the black one being the original demo car, then building a white one which was part of the 1997-onwards (to at least 2008!) Cockpit Tatebayashi Tokyo Auto Salon booth demo cars. It appears that Emotion R closed down in 2008 and was declared bankrupt in 2010: http://bank-db.com/hasan/208365. Scan of a magazine with the black R33 from 1996: Wayback machine archived page from May, 2000: https://web.archive.org/web/20000529061027/http://www.emotion-r.co.jp/skyline.html Option magazine with a few photos from the Cockpit Tatebayashi booth at the Auto Salon from various years: 2002: http://www.jdm-option.com/photo/index.php?action=item&category_id=154&image_id=3507 2003: http://www.jdm-option.com/photo/index.php?action=item&category_id=137&image_id=3033 2005: http://www.jdm-option.com/photo/index.php?action=item&category_id=116&image_id=1831 In 2008 Cusco website mentions that the Cockpit Tatebayashi ECR33 was displayed at that year's Tokyo Auto Salon: https://www.cusco.co.jp/event/2008/12/post_735.html As of 2021 it appears that the ECR33 demo car ended up being exported to Florida, USA: https://rmcmiami.com/inventory/1996-nissan-skyline-r33-cockpit-tatebayashi-demo-car-big-te06-turbo-endless-brakes-lsd-450hp/ And finally here's Google streetview of the Emorion R garage in 2023 which is amazingly not only still there, but the showroom is still full of various parts in stock and funishings, etc.: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ttyEAZdZLyzermyT9 Apologies for nerding out a bit. I used to love doing this 20 years ago on SAU and got a bit nostalgic for a moment... 😅
    • Try fabricating something like this and install it under the pedals? Not sure if it's legal or not....
    • Even though I have some pretty good (brand) ratchet ringies, I avoid using them to break open tight bolts. A broken ratchet is very annoying.
