linedup33
i recently just fitted a news transmission into my car. but now when i put it into drive it feels like it goes straight into 4th gear..the workshop who fitted it sed to go to a autotrans specialist to get it checked..ill have to take it next weekend as i wont have time this weekend. has this happened to anyone else? n does anyone know what could be wrong? n how to fix it? any help would be awesome. thanks heaps in advance Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/195890-auto-problems/ Share on other sites
lanky71
Sounds like it is going into limp mode if 33's do that?? Basically the ecu is saying there is something wrong and to protect itself it is restricting revs which makes you feel like you are in fourth gear. My car was doing this before but mine is a 34 but it stuck in 3rd, my speed sensor was had it. Mind you i'm no expect on 33's but thats what it sounds like to me. lanky71
thanks for that dude..but do u mean the ecu is saying something is wrong?how did u fix urs? Yeah the ecu is saying there is something wrong with one of the crucial parts of the car so to protect itself it limits the car. I replaced my speed sensor and it fixed it, but seeing that you just had a new transmission put in I would be seeing if you can get a hold of a Nissan Diagnostic tool and read the ecu fault codes. That should tell you what the problem is, but more then likely something with the new auto box, i find it weird that the place that installed it is now sending you onto to another place.... Was it working when you first picked the car up from them? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/195890-auto-problems/#findComment-3507881 Share on other sites

silversr33
thanks mate - will try wen the sun goes down, n let u no how it goes After removing the transmission and installing a new one, they would reset the ECU obviously right? If this is a non-standard transmission then to me it sounds like an interface issue between the ECU not liking the new box or the box not receiving the ECU's gear change commands and the ECU panicking. If that was in fact the case, and I'm NOT any kind of expert, I would talk to someone experienced with skylines (as opposed to someone experienced with gearboxes) about how the ECU works in an auto and what piggyback solutions might solve it. turboedsloth
find a decent mechanic who has a diagnostic tester and get them to hook it up. any proper transmission builder should have one. plug it in, check for codes, easy as Edited December 13, 2007 by turboedsloth Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/195890-auto-problems/#findComment-3531328 Share on other sites

R31_Rob
If it was as simple as trans out, new trans in, it sounds like one of the plugs has not been connected correctly, but if you have had a shift kit or something else fiited you may have some problems. If you have a multimeter check that there is 12volts going to some of the plugs, Also try starting the car in gear and let us know the results?
