Hey There

The other week i got pulled over and defected so im chasing down some standard parts. Does anyone in the northern suburbs preferably have front and rear springs to suit an r33 gtst series 1 and how much would you want for them? I will add more parts to this post as i go through the whole process. Also if anyone else has been through regency with an r33 can you please tell me what they looked over just so i can get a general idea of how much work i gota do.

Cheers Allan

Yeah mate i know they check everything lol but if we could put togethor a checklist maybe we could sticky it ontop of the page to help everyone so far i know you have to have

-Standard Turbo

-100mm ground clearance lowest point of the car

-r33 has to be 345mm high at the front 355mm at the rear

-no louder than 90 db

-Apparently a front mount and pod is ok if it doesnt go through a structual point of the car and pod is secure (this is what i got defected for induction) which regency say its not even a defect....

- No bleed valve, boost controllers

-Must have standard ECU

-Suspension Bushes mustnt be cracked or damaged

-Hicas lock bar are not allowed cuz its a welded suspension component

If anyone has failed the regency test which i gather isnt hard to do could you please post in hear what you needed to change to get through and we can add to the list. Also the regency inspection is now $132 and roughly a 1-2 week wait to get in. Any info posted in hear could go along way to help out alot of people as alot of people are getting defected lately.

298 are u for real??

Hicas lock bar engineering is 250 from most automotive engineers on the list at regency.

Now im sad that my gtr is defected, going to cost more then i thought to goto regency :)

Also pods that are secure are fine and FMIC are fine but you cant cut bumper reinforcement.

So if you cant cut your reo bar, must mean most lines with fmic's are a defect. I dont even have a reo bar because of my 120mm thick intercooler. I was thinking of cutting one to fit but if this is still a defect no use doing it then.

I didnt think you can engineer your hicas lock bar?

Fantastic idea guys......this is a really good thread that could save other unsuspecting defectees alot of cash and heartache.

So anyone with any experience with Regency and the processes involved to lift the defects need to be listed here.

I got defected for having a pod filter (which is secure) and for having a front mount intercooler. I rang regency they said it is NOT a defect unless the pod is not secure and if the fmic goes through a structual point of the car(the piping) its a defect which mine did not (cop obviously had no idea what he was on about) and when i rang regency they said it WILL cost $298 for first inspection and i questioned that they said the price went up about 10 months ago. From what i gather the cut reo bar is a definate defect but i have heard if they cant see it they wont pick on it........ i have had to cut mine to fit my fmic and new front bar so still undecided weather or not to change it as they wont be able to see it unless they take my front bar of. So has anyone got any standard 33 gtst series 1 springs i can buy lol.

hey thats unlucky about a year ago i got defected only cost me 70 bucks,, um what i dont understand is the two things that were defected on your car are two legal things, so how come u didnt question it or do anything about it cause i actually think you would be able to get off this one.

I did ring up the police station after speaking to regency they said to bring it to your local cop shop and explain the situation and see what happens the only problem is the car is to low and to loud anyway and i have different turbo, ecu, bleedvalve..... so the car is defectable i just didnt get defected on what is actually defectable. So its not gona matter if i bring it to the cop shop cuz there just gona pick on the things thats defectable anyway(fair enough i guess) so im gona raise it and shut it up abit then take it to the cop shop and try my luck but i really think im just wasting my time. It just pisses me off that a coper can defect you when they clearly have no idea what the hell their on about.

    • Hi All, I'm based in Sydney and want to get hold of 4 stock R34 GTT wheel caps as pictured. Cheers
    • Haha im flattered! Although my poor boat is collecting dust in the garage, as it hasn’t been driven in like 6 months. I forgot the to put the trickle charger on too, so the battery is likely toast now.. I have the frenchys kit. It is fantastic. My only gripe was that the hard lines from the firewall needed some tweaking, however, this was mainly due to my specific turbo and dump combo. The weight and size packaging is much nicer too. I think I have some pics on my build thread somewhere.. my justification for the kit was more “why not” I had gone to the trouble to modernise just about every other part of the car..
    • Actually, ethanol has probably never been cheaper, on a tax free basis, than petrol. With fuel excise being what it is, and only being levied on the hydocarbon component, not the ethanol component, and ethanol for non-drinking purposes not being subject to liquor excise - E85 was cheaper, but not because the combustible liquid itself was particularly cheaper.
    • Maybe? If changing the cat to a higher flowing cat, caused the turbo to spool more quickly, and those areas of the map had not been tuned for the boost level it is now seeing, then yes you would need a re-tune. How dangerous it is running without the updated tune would depend on how far out the tune is with the now higher boost levels, how the engine protection has been setup, is the ECU compensating with a wideband sensor, is the boost control closed loop blah blah million other things... But yeah having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if changing out the cat for a high flow, in say a full 3" exhaust, made no noticeable difference at all.
