I ran my Opel Kadett GSi replica WRC car at Morgan Park on Saturday... and I took the oportunity to run the Stagea around the track for a blast.

1 00:01:28.59 33.2% 00:01:28.59 33.2% 1/12/2007 3:02:42 PM

2 00:02:59.07 67.0% 00:01:30.48 33.9% 1/12/2007 3:04:12 PM

3 00:04:27.20 100.0% 00:01:28.13 33.0% 1/12/2007 3:05:40 PM

was fun and I actually got a high 1:26 but for sume reason I don't have the numbers... but my girl was doing 1:32's and as low as a 1:29. She has never seen a race track in her life... was impressed.

Oh and if you are wondering I did 1:20's in the Opel not bad for a 2.0lt 8v N/A motor... had a few people in GTR's scratchin' there heads :(

Excuse my n00bness, but is the Opel Kadett the same as the Holden / Isuzu Gemini? Never seen the WRC version - Pics?

Ok Opel Kadett C is the Gemini version.

Opel Kadett E (Vauxhall Astra E) is front wheel drive version which later sold here is Australia as a Holden Astra from the early '90's till the current version. The "E" was efectivly the Camira of which we only got a Sedan and a Wagon... there was a 3 door hatch which was the basis for the rally car from '84 till '90 before they changed to the shape which was realsed in Aus as the Astra.

In 1995 Deawoo was setup by GM Europe and the first production car was the 15i 3 door hatch (also called a Racer). This car is identical to the '80's car except for the 1500 engine.

I had the original Camira Rally Car built by Rod Browning based on the 3 door rally version. This has been reshelled into the deawoo shell making up a replica... with all the extra running gear and body kit from europe.

The original Group A Rally car from 1984

My car at Mt Cotton Hill Climb a month ago or so (I did 2 unofficial hand timed 54sec runs).

My car now has the graphics upgraded to look exaxctly like the WRC car.

If anyone wants to know more More info on my car can read about my build.

Not really Nissan stuff... but I hope someone finds this interesting :action-smiley-069:

My motor sport life did start out with a Datsun 1600 boasting 145Hp @ wheels back in the early 90's >_<

more details on your datto!

Well by going by your name you are a dedecated 1600 man. It's been a while I'll try to remember something.

I built the car myself... stripped to a shell and seam welded all openings. Fitted a Aluminium Cage... I shudder when I think about it now. A few extra strengthining bits. I had the bonus of the knowlegable Greame Julius who had a lot to do will rallying 1600's in there day.

1800 engine with the twin carbies. ballanced, port matched head, lighter flywheel. Greame did things to it and tuned it so there mabe things I don't know about and yeah as I said it 145Hp on the dyno that I do remember.

240K front struts with comodore inserts (can't remember the spring rates) Cant remeber the rear.

Bluebird 5 speed with 4.4:1 and CIG locker

I won 3 class motor khana regional chapionships and a class khana cross regional championships. Did some good rally finishes nothing near the podium but I did reasonable well.

A great car... everyone should own a 1600 once in there life and do club sport.

A mate has just bought a Datsun 1600 coupe 2 door from Japan... should be here soon. He is building a replica woprks car and wants to do Targa in it. Should be good to see.

i am interested in stageas on the racetrack.

how did it handle?

I found mine hilariiously easy to handle and slide, classic fun in a car this big. Not quick though 1.20 at wakefield park

i'm planning on getting both on the track at some point, 1600 has new konis/lovells in k struts, 4.1 r180, adjustable camber/castor, disc rear in the shed, stroked L18, pretty much everything done, ex-rally motor. great fun, i'm navigating in the VRC in a bluebird next year, as i doubt CAMS will touch me to drive due to medical shit, and if i like navigating, will get my 1600 ready to rally.

Duncan- What mods does your stagea have? what settings on the suspension? what tires? what brakes/pads? how far behind say an r33 gtst?

It handled quite well for a car that weighs sum 1650kgs... few people said it looked quite flat on the road. I didn't push it till it would slide but I did have it moving around a little.

If my girl can get in and do 1:29's and never been to a race track... she had never put on a helmet in here life is a good indicator the car is naturally quick.

I didn't want to manual shift the auto so I just did it in 2nd for a few laps till I was hitting the limiter before the breaking marker... so then I just drove it in "D". I naturaly left foot break so I just tried to keep it mooving instead of hard breaking and hoping it would shift to a lower gear.

My suspension is standardish I think (not 100% sure) but it did feel that with good low setup and prepared to maual shift the box you would keep a few people very honest on the track. I just like the coments "what ist that again?" lol love it.

Would love to get a Liberty wagon and a Volvo wagon maybe a Comodore and a Falcoon wagon's and have a shoot out... Probably find the Volvo might be the dark horse. Would be fun to see.

Dato sounds good... I have a very big soft spot for the 1600... the mate who is importing the 1600 coupe has 2 dato's a 13B powered one and a clean shell stripped and primed ready for rebuild. I would love to build a 1600 race car again for Historic rallying.

.... as i doubt CAMS will touch me to drive due to medical shit, and if i like navigating, will get my 1600 ready to rally....

Not knowing your problem and I dont want to pry either... But I had a limited Cams liscence for rallying in the 90's at the moment I just have a S2.

I lost my right eye and uper jaw/pallet and cheek bone to cancer in 1990... I also have Hyper tension (extreme hi blood presure) and I take 2 tablets a day for that and I was still able to get a CAMS Rally Liscense.

oh and no I dont actually have half a head... if you saw me with sunglases you would never know.. and if saw me without glasses you wouldn't realise how much was removed and rebuilt... except for the obvious. Cost you tax payers some half a mill though.. oh I guess me too.

Can't complain though.. if it wasn't for having cancer I would never have done motorsport and travelled the world and done a lot of things... maybe even buying the Stagea.

Mine has Sydneykid's suspension (shocks, springs, swaybars) is manual, otherwise standard. Handles beautiful but litterally 5-6 seconds slower than an equivalent gtst - the extra 300kg really hurts unless youve got lots of power to push it along.
