Just wondering what everybody else thinks about the new changes.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/police...6530616329.html

Am a bit worried by it. My friend in a high powered FWD car got done for "doing a burnout" when he lost traction doing a hillstart in the wet for approx. 3 seconds. and now: "Car hoons would not only face losing their vehicles but also their liberty, with jail terms of up to nine months for repeat street racing and burnout offences."

Wonder how this is going to end...

its harsh but i think if its used properly and not power tripped by the police then it might be a sucess...

If it makes idiots think twice before racing, drifting on the st, or being a complete moron and saves atleast one life then its been a sucess..

but yeah i dont think it will go down well if it is abused..

Hopefully it'll end in kids learning a lesson first time around instead of continually flaunting the law, disfiguring roads, keeping working people awake @ all hours and most importantly it might stop one or two from wrapping themselves around a pole or similar.

I think that this is BS mate. There is a couple of intersections near where i live and they are on a hill. I stopped at those lights a few times in the rain and its sometimes really hard to get traction taking off and moving up a hill. Specially when most people are sitting at the lights loosing oil etc reducing traction. Also the road is very worn down at the lights and gets that slick shine to it that you see when the road gets worn smooth.

A couple of times i have gone to take off normally and have broke traction and been like WTF must be slicker than i thought.

I am starting to not really want to be out there on the roads these days. Just seems like police are out there to get people for anything no matter how minor or accidental it is.

I drive like a normal person but i am starting to feel like i am a criminal now for owning a skyline and driving it around. I am now always looking everywhere to spot police and avoid them.

Like always, its gonna be a case of good cop, bad cop....

One cop will think that the slightest chirp on that 40 degree incline hill on that wet morning warrants 9 months in jail cause your a hoon and unaustralian

The other cop will get busted whipping up bush dirt doughnuts on youtube and get is job back 3 days later :whistling:

This is crap, doubt it will pass..

Car owners and parents will also be punished if their car is the one used by the convicted driver. - No chance of happening.

The legislation will provide for the car to be confiscated and used in crash tests if it is involved in three offences over a period of five years. - Doubt it .. Finance wont like it.

However Im all for this..

The anti-hoon package also includes a wheel clamping program, where cars are immobilised and dumped in their yard at home.

I mean I'm pretty good on the road but seriously how many hoons drive on the rd? All the people I saw at the auto salon were so well behaved it wasnt funny, I expected it to be a summernats but not even close, casual calm driving. I think they should just ban anyone in the west from driving high powered cars.. Seems to be where the problem lies (and yeah I live in the west, I'd just move even tho It would never happen) I should clarify - high powered v8s/commonwhores/falcons etc... Cars which think they have a daily tyre frying drag car when its a stock v8 with a pod filter..

Oh and the fine for burnouts is pullshit, they can already take the car for one anyways what more do they want?

Since when do burnouts feature high in the list of things that kill people in this country? Street racing is bad though, although personally I don't see much wrong with it up to the speed limit only. I'm open to being convinced otherwise as I haven't put that much thought into it.

its a big wank by the Iemma government to try and look like they are doing something useful...

How bout fixing the pothole ridden roads in southwest sydney morris?

How bout them train huh, Why dont we raise the fares and make them even more unreliable.. Thatl'l keep those "hoons " off the road...

so jail the guys doing burnouts, and give a $200 fine to the punks breaking into your car taxing your stereo.

I like to drive up to the speed limit as fast as i want to. But i am too affraid these days that if there just happened to be a car beside me accelerating at a similar speed, that this will be considered as "racing". I always back off now if someone tries to keep up beside me cause i dont want any one (police) to get the wrong idea.

Can the police even get u if you and another person just both happen to accelerate at the same rate UP to the speed limit then stop. Even when it just was a co - incidence that someone was beside you and doing something similar. You can't control what someone else does. If they accelerate at the same rate as u then that just coincidence.

Well obviously you need to hit it harder to overtake them trying to race you lol.. if you arnt beside them it cant be a race can it?! Oh but supposedly hard accleration is an offence too..

The laws are a joke.. I dont understand wtf they even make this crap up.

Yeah i hear that excesive aceleration is an offence too. What is classed as excesive acceleration. How do they regulate that. They might think that punching it in ya skyline is excesive acceleration. What bout a ferrari etc doing the same thing. They will prob bring in a law stating that you can't accelerate fast than X meters per sec/sec.

I think i might put my Kia Rio on order right now. Gunna be needing it in the near future after they ban all cars with power greater than 100kw.

Might just go down the dark side and waste all my money ricing up my Rio instead.

lol, don't forget the defect laws :whistling:

Personally, i have no interest in racing off the lights or burn outs. I don't mind a spirited drive but since starting to go to the track regularly i haven't felt the urge all that often, and even then, the car is broken from the track outing so i can't :D

    • Actually,  just remembered there should be info in the threads (somewhere) about swapping to a manual steering rack and deleting power steering all together.
    • Also had a look at the Nissan JP website looks like the 400r has a slightly shorter ratio than than the regular V37 3.133 VS 2.937 which from a guy who has driven both 3.69 vs 4.11 ratios in the S15 is bugger all. Seems that the AUTO Z runs the same ratio as the 400R but can't find any info as to if its an open or LSD? More often than not the auto LSD is open
    • Do not replace the power steering lines with this stuff. If it's anything like the Chase Bays stuff it will leak and be worse than stock. The reason why the reservoir is on the LH/passenger side of the car is because that's just where the reservoir was most convenient to fit. Don't overthink this stuff. The intake/cold side of the engine is pretty busy on these cars. And again, the hardpipe is designed to be a janky power steering cooler. In theory you can replace it with a real power steering cooler but that's really only for track use where boiling the fluid is a distinct possibility. Start with the low pressure lines feeding the pump from the reservoir. Make sure there isn't a bunch of junk in the reservoir filter. Be careful to not get ATF all over the engine bay. I hate dealing with ATF spills, you can clean it up and the slightest crevice will still release more oil that can still drip over time. You also want to inspect for leaks before you make a mess and can't tell what happened. Most likely you have a leak somewhere that is allowing fluid out and air in. Failing that it's allowing air in but not fluid out. Only place I can really see that happening is on the low pressure side because the pump will pull a slight vacuum to draw fluid in. Everything after the pump is high pressure or lower pressure, approaching atmospheric by the time it returns to the reservoir.
    • I did a skidpan night at SMSP this week, it was much cheaper than $350. But yeah, you need to slap an LSD in that thing.  I put an OS Giken in the 370Z and it's f**king MARVELOUS even compared to Nissan's viscous LSD. So you're saying it's free now that it's a housing estate? 😂
    • Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
