there were literally less than 20 cars there all day, only 2x sessions (cheats and sedans) and as usual they all started to drop off pretty early (eg formula fords, commodores, evos etc) only the nissans (skylines, 200sx, 180sx) lasted

Hahahaha yeah me, sheng and stphen had a little mini race....would've been fun if stephen didn't choke and spin out at turn 2. But damn him and his semis, i just couldn't keep up around the bigger sweeping corners, if I floored it, I would definitely have oversteered but he was like having a nice cruise or seomthing. Maybe the new GTR wing will help the next time around and some better brake fluids so I can lay the smack down with my uber trail braking. My rear is a so unsettled on braking, and judging from the silly toe angles it could be the cause. A new wheel alignment is defintely in order.

I must say, the suspension was great.....I felt really confident heading fast into the corners knowing there won't be much understeer. Although I could do with some swaybars....BADLY

Its really awesome how you can realy pick up on the other aspect of your car if you do these trackdays.

Stephen as in skyline_gtts?

good to see him back out there!!

Doubt I'll be able to make any of the early Jan days (working at summernats) so my next day is wakie on the 19th.

James - any idea on times today?

I estimate a 1:30-1:33 ish, a workmate was supposed to come with me to time me, but pulled out at the last minute.

yes stephen with the drift spec and even more outrageous jigsaw paint scheme.....black bonnet, silver tail lights white shell.......just MAD!!!

we all ran out of fuel at the end of the day....

given more down force and some better brake fluids, there's definitely another 2-3 seconds I cna shave off................Braked too early into turn 1 (i'm scared of big fast sweeping corners). Should've maybe let off the throttle before the apex, clip that, give it another tap, then hard brake. The flip flop, I only managed to go through that in 4th gear full throttle once, and that almost scared the shit out of me as the rear was twitching. The corner leading up to the bridge could've been a bit tidier and the s curves following that, I could've used a slightly better line for that as well. I didn't know what gear to use for that.....4 seems a little down on torque to pull through, 3rd gear would mean screaming on the limiter by the time I reach that off camber turn (turn before the flip flop)

f**k.

man you dont know how pissed I was I couldnt be there.

esp yesterday!

There were only 2 of us in today at work for all of australia.....spewing

Duncan, 18/1? where at?

ah cool, see you there also

James - did you use and go over the ripple strips at suttons (left hander) and the left to right before last turn onto pits? have the ripple in middle of car, John Bozzman tought me that and it shaved alot off my times. its amazing how much less steering you need which means more speed! ;)

sure. bleed your bakes, buy some semis and don't brake so much  just don't blame me when you run out of track ;)

seriously, best way to get quicker around a track is to get some training.

sutton is turn 7, it is a beauty. Much more open than it seems, off camber on the exit (downhill to a concrete wall), and lots of concrete on the inside of the ripple strip to drive on.

I thought so, yes I did use the ripple strip and I LOVE that corner.......but half the time I was having a dilemma of finding a good gear to use.....I was in 4th gear most of corner 6, 7 and 8 but the s curves after corner 6 makes it hard to accelerate in 4th gear...but the time I get up to speed, it's corner 7 already. Putting it in 3rd gear seems over kill, and I just get a lot of revs and oversteer.

bear in mind, this is all street tyres so I was wrestling with a bit fo grip around there.

John is racing one of the bransteter GTRs in improved production at the moment and is going OK (although dave loftus is quicker). He had a 32 gtr himself years ago too, might even have been an aus delivered one. He's about the only one a Luffs who really knows what they are talking about

back to 3rd for that corner, you need to pull out of it hard and up the hill

turn speed 50-80 = 2nd

90-130 = 3rd

anything else (turn 1s at EC, OP, WP) = 4th.

At Oran Park 2nd for turn 3, 3rd for every other turn except 1 which is 4th

really?

4th?

Im 3rd most of that half of track! and thats a 54 sec lap on south circuit.

But yeah, as John told me - dont be affraid of the ripples on the off corners (eg suttons - weight is all on the right side of car and ripple is on left)

dam I really wish I went this weekend *cries*

Duncan - does wakie have corners like suttons where theres concrete on the inside of the ripples?

edit - good pointers there Duncan with gears and speed

lol @ Spin king, as in spinning people out or bit of everything ahah

yeah ive got this little twicking noise from one the back wheels, but meh ill drive it off, need a service soon anyway.

ive picked up a few thing to need to be done too!

sway bars and pads are a definate, and less cables ties coz didnt use any this time  stupid things weighting my car done, and oh, a huge Recaro

seat :D, damn lost like 10 kgs from body roll n shit alone, but was a huge fun and hopefully ill have enough cash for the next one!

^^ that Shell corner has ate me alive at least 4 times omg, but punished it during the last lap ;)

Albert, you hooked yet or what???

James, I have an 11 row cooler (and relocation kit) from performance wise which Nathan @ Grey Imports fitted

    • Yeah, the advent of canbus was supposed to cut down on wiring weight, then some bright marketing wonk says "oh, look at all these wonderful tech gadgets we can cram in here now that we have this wonderous technology" and some arsehole safety legislator says "oh, look at all the wonderful surveillance and tracking gadgets we can cram in here now that we have this wonderous technology" and some dipshit young engineer who has grown up thinking that an extra 500000 lines of code is not a problem because storage is cheap these days says "oh look at all this wonderful shit I can do to one up those dipshit arsholes over at VW" and the Karens of the world all go "oh look at all these fancy things I can do on my screen (so long as I am not driving on a bumpy road wherein touch screens immediately become the single most stupid shit idea ever shoveled into a car) and my 19 zone airconditioning keeps my sweaty fat folds a bit less damp and the windows close themselves because I'm too fat and lazy to wind them up for myself and these reversing sensors would have been great if I'd paid attention to them instead of smashing them on the bollard while I was reversing and staring fixedly forward that day I went to pick up little Charlize from ballet" and the sweaty mongoloids who say "oh this wonderful collision avoidance technology with these 45 excellent radar antennae scattered across the front of my car mean I can tailgate like a methed up tradie at full speed with no fear because the car and the 35 airbags will protect me if it all goes wrong" ...... </shallistopranting?>
    • There's a post from a member (can't recall who), went down the path of a twin scroll G30-660 and it's doing over 300kW+ AND comes on about the same as a high flow RB25DET turbo. Have your cake and eat it too in this case. TBH, if I had a 2nd chance of building my car again (i.e. someone gave me what I wanted for my shit box, but the deal was I had to re-build another R33 and keep the change) I would just pop in a stock NEO motor (with new seals, rod bearings, ARP studs, head gasket, sump, Nitto pump), get a smaller twin scroll turbo, modify the stock low mount (keep the divider in place), and make a solid 300kW on 98RON and call it a day.
    • It's all the sound deadening, and extra shit piled into them, plus all the extra (even though it's thinner) material for crumple zones. I can't fathom in modern cars why they need canbus to the headlights, and why the headlights must be vin coded on some cars to the ECU, BCM, and security module! Especially when they claim it's for security, yet, the canbus at the headlights let's thieves steal the car in minutes, so even more cars are being stolen! The Mercedes Sprinter 907 vans. They're a huge van, but a "basic" van. Yet they have that many canbus networks, plus two Lin networks, AND an Ethernet network. Logging a single network alone of 8 byte data frames, and they will generate a 20mb log file in 5 minutes. That's one network, and I can't remember the exact amount, but there's over 10 full CAN2.0B networks in them. I'm not a fan of modern cars, oddly, more and more I hate DBW, and all the bullshittery the cars try and interfere with. But all that bullshittery adds weight, plus crazy regulations on crumple zones, plus, ever picked a modern seat up, half of them have like 4 electric motors in them and will weigh 30+kg each. Then all the motors for things like adjustable steering columns blah blah blah. And did I mention the sound deadening so you can even hear an ambulance right behind you even if you 7.2surround sound is off?
    • Ah ok, yeah it should be flat, I believe the r34 battery tray has these 3 bumps in them they makes it line up and everything is flat, don't see how it would tilt if everything is secured.
    • Agreed it actively wants to kill you which I love driving fast cars slow is my stick
