Was having a discussion tonight with my brother and his friends, looks like I've been talked into getting a custom Front Mount made up.

I got told ASE were good. anyone had any experiance with them?

or anyone have any other reccomendations...

Had too many troubles trying to fit other coolers in due to my headlights being in the way and dont want to hack my front bar out. so would rather now go all out on a custom job. Having the room to play I should also be able to fit a much chunkier then normal intercooler in aswell.

where abouts are BTR located? I was told ASE are in Edwards town.

thanks for your info everyone :P

mate, i've got a hybrid cooler from autobarn in the front of mine, i had to do a little bit of trimming of the front bar becauase i didn't have one when we put the cooler on, otherwise we could've lifted it up a bit more!! Im running a 600x80x450 i *think* in the front of mine no dramas!!!

No, get one appropriate for what you are trying to achieve.

The smallest possible intercooler that will do the job is what you're looking for - less volume to fill = better response, and the least possible impedence to airflow through the rest of the cooling system is a plus.

mate you dont have to get something hugely thick to get the best out of a cooler....i am running the trust cooler on mine and it does a shitload better job then those hybrid ones....so i would prob go with the trust as they are pretty good

+1... unless u are a massive fan of lag, and being more succeptible to overheating from lack of airflow to ur radiator, there is no need for a bling fmic that is the size of ur windscreen :nyaanyaa:

was speaking to the workshop doing my tuning today, they suggested an off-the shelf one would be just as good and less fuss, adding that to what everyone else said on this thread... I am now changing my mind and going with the option of an off the shelf product.

So thanks all for your opinion.

So, if it does a "shitload better job" have you got the proof to back this up????

I've never had a problem with my hybrid one, my mate who had it before me never had a problem and he pushed it alot harder then what i currently am.

where'd you get your cooler from. most seem to be 600x300..... 600x450 would be more ideal i reckon. and how much boost you running and is it an adequate size.

The tuner was gonna push mine to 18psi. Although I want to wind it back around 10-11 for now until i can get used to extra power. As i like to drive it in the hills and I dont want an accident the first weekend I take it out.

*edit

just found out when it used to have the old beefed up FJ; it had a Trust Intercooler with (400x260x100) core, 60mm outlets.

I got mine from Crimmo, its the one he used to have in his gold MR30 sedan! Beleive he got it from autobarn. Im only running 8psi atm (leaning out about 6k still on standard ecu and injectors, had it all ready to go but a house got in the way of things haha), it makes 162kw on jaustech's dyno...Crimmo used to run 14psi through it in his old car, never had a problem with the cooler getting hot, or heatsoak or anything.

What turbo you have on there?? Still the VG30?? What boost you pushing through it now??? Wouldn't be pushing that much more then 14psi if its still on there...

Oh and yes, another vote 1 for leroy, he does good work

Atm its running 7 pounds.

Just looks like any old turbo to me hahaha. Although the my bro's mate thats going to do my intercooler piping will know (he built the FJ sitting in the car now)

The guys down @ the dyno/workshop had a look @ the engine, etc etc and worked it all out. They reckon it can run 18 without any problems. If it cant, I have told them not to push it that high.... Come to think of it, Im pretty sure Tom was running 17 pounds when he had the car.

As long as its pushing 160+ at the wheels I will be happy. a few people reckon It could make 200, but i'm thinking thats abit ambiguous.
