Hi guys,

I've had a GTR r32 for sometime now, and its had its fair share of problems, (coils, air flow meter connections etc), but it has never had any real power. Even after fixing all these problems.

Everything tested fine in the vehicle (yes, I am a qualified mechanic, and used the proper workshop manual and 10 years experience). I got my hands on two GTR computers, both have been chipped and holy hell is it a diferent car with these other ECU's in it! One of the ECU's pings terribly (as in down to the roundabout and thats enough thats coming out) and the second one is not too bad on the pinging. The chips in both of these has been soldered to the board.

My original computer is also chipped (do stock gtr ECU's exist? lol), but a socket has been fitted to the board so my chip is removable. Now I have sent the ECU away to be tested, and the actual ECU tests out fine (they are unable to test the calibration of the chip, but all inputs and outputs are triggering correctly), so the conclusion is my modchip has died. I have to return these borrowed ECU's.

I am not terribly worried if I have to burn my own chip, but what I would like to know is:

1: Does anyone know of a site where I can download a copy of a chip that is suitable for aussie fuel?

Or

2: If there is a site I can get a copy of any of the stock maps? (Preferably not the gutless Aussie delivered tune)

Or

3: Where I can get a chip I can just fit that will work well on the Aussie fuel?

I dont intend on modifying it any more than how it is, airfilters, exhaust and restrictor removed.

Any information anyone can offer on this topic is more than appreciated.

1. I doubt you'll find anywhere. Then you need the equipment to burn on top of that

3. There are VERY limited chip tuners. Dr.Drift is one, NisTune another and i think there are two more in the country.

Using a chip limits you to tuners, availability, location etc. Not saying thats a bad thing, depending on your situation.

Stock ECU's exist, ive seen two in the last 24 hours.

Yeah, agreed.

Stuffing around with that sort of shit is way too hard, and probably expensive.

You might find that getting a tunable ECU is cheaper and easier.

The other thing is, like you mentioned, detonation is dangerous. If you get a proper ECU you can have it tuned to suit your car which is the best way to go, since most cars are different and a chip that you find might cause damage.

I have a Power FC.

Alternatively, just get a stock ECU.

yeh as the other guys have mentioned, see if you can pick-up a standard ecu for it again.

or alternatively move to a power-fc. They are still reasonably priced for the gtr and also cost you alot less to tune for those possible future mods. All depends on how long your keeping it and if your doing more mods.

I have now got hold of a binary. I'm not sure how it'll handle Aussie fuel, I'll suck it and see.

Surely someone has got one suitable for aussie fuel somewhere?

I dont intend to do any major mods to it. If I ever decide to I'd get a real time tune done. I just want a fast reliable daily driver.

Where are you located? You may find a real time tune, not only suited to aussie fuel, but your car specifically, may yield some awesome results, and be cheaper than you may think.

Also Morpowa and BoostWorx are now tuning with NIStune boards in Adelaide

These are a plug in board and tuned via your diagnostics port. Current tuners list:

otherwise just pm me. I have a few different maps for varying AFM and INJ sizes, both GTST and GTR, r32 & r33

3: EBay, or do it yourself - dont worry what people say this stuff is pretty easy; its just peoples lack of tuning experience and them generally holding back on this info that makes it difficult. You just need an EPROM reader/writer, EPROM socket, blank EPROM's or emulator for realtime tuning and just copy the image accross. The money you save doing it yourself offsets the cost of this equiptment not to mention you can now do mates cars.

Your lucky the R32 is a direct desolder/resolder whereas the R33 requires a seperate daughterboard to make it fit. Dr Drift mentioned I think mentioned somewhere that these are now easily available at a reasonable price?

Std ECU has Knock retard function, I believe that the power FC does not :D

Hi Simon,

I'll be getting my 26/30 tuned using Nistune. Just wondering why you think Jeff is so much better than the other

two? I have no views or affiliation either way.

thats an easy one, jeff has a lot more experience. He has been tuning for years, way before the two shops i mentioned have. Jeff tunes a car the way any good tuner should, ensures that everything is sweet (such as idle, cold start, driveability) before it leaves the shop! Boostworx on the otherhand dont seem to take this time and care to get things right and just tune for max power.

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.  
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
