What state are you in?

im in victoria, i've looked into vicroads and they say the car must have a power to weight ratio of 125kw per tonne. the 3 demerit points and the $1100 fine is the maximum penalty you could land if caught driving a high powered car or is the the standard fine?

Sorry the turbo R33 doesn't meet the power to weight rule....only turbo R32's did.

Besides isn't the rule now that a P plater isn't allowed to drive any turbo or V8 car??

I'd check the vicroads websites for the latest rules and regs....

by my calculations you can't drive it....the max kw for a car that weighs 1.37tonne is a little over 171kw, altho its pretty close....just keep heaps of stuff in the car and tell them to weigh it ;)

lol yeah right. i live in the country and i've got mates on their P's that are driving 5 litre V8s and twin turbo 1993 r33's that have never been pulled over for power restrictions. i dont know if its a different story in the city. how to the police judge a car to be over the power to weight limit when they pull you over? they cant extactly weigh and dyno your car on the spot? :)

i've looked into that, if you got your P's before july 1st 07 you can drive a v8 or turbo as long as the power to weight ratio is under 125kw per ton, which the R33 is over. dont car's lose power as the age? so it could be argued the factory kw of the car is now less since the car is 12 years old?

Get an NA car to drive on your Ps. I drove a v6 vn for my ps and i will be fully licensed in about 2 months. Ive had a r33 gtst sitting in my garage for 3 months tempting me and while i enjoy driving it once a week locally i will admit that not being allowed to drive it by law is fair.

Its just too powerful for an inexperienced driver.

i understand thats the reality often, but I was giving you the exact answer since you asked. Your point about losing power over time, your right in the fact that some cars do lose power, the only thing you would want to check is if the rules are based on the cars orignal power, or if they take a power reading and base it off that...
