Hey guys

Im building a motor for my GTR currently, and the issue of oil control has come up.

So far its got a gated sump baffle and the tomei head restrictor, but after speaking to one of my mechanic mates he was saying the JUN pump will empty an rb26 OEM sump pretty fast - so what are the current options/things people are doing to overcome this?

For the money, the Trust extension is a very good choice.

Baffle cylinder, modified pickup and increased capacity.

On the other hand, if your budget permits, I too would go for the Performance Metalcraft option.

I'd either be using a stock sump +1ltr.

Or a Racepace one - tried, tested, proven :ermm:

Setup is basically:

RB30

N1 or JUN pump (got the cash here ready to buy either one - long story)

SPOOL rods

CP pistons

tomei head restrictor

cam baffles

oil feed from back of head to sump

currently has gated sump baffles in OEM sump

The car is mainly for hill runs (high G cornering)

id go for a performance metalcraft sump....ive launched quite a few times with one harder than most (2nd hardest in aust) and would throughly recommend one.

Is that what you have on there now?

Just to clarrify, if a JUN pump can drain a normal sump, and you have the big ole -10 from head -> sump;

Where is the oil supposed to be draining to? ;)

Sorry, shouldve been more specific: Those parts are all ready to go, its just a matter of choosing a sump and the right combination of the other parts to go withit :D

I've got no direct experience with the JUN pump....but why would you want to put in a pump that flows *more* than standard.

the base of the oil control problems in rb26 is that the standard pump flows too much at high revs.

n1 oil pump flows less oil for the same revs.

I understood JUN pump flows same as n1 but doesn't explode the first time you launch hard like an n1 pump does?

Anyway, on sumps, I run the trust extension - have used it at Targa and on the circuit and have never touched it, it hangs about 1cm below the subframe. This includes twice breaking the front suspension and going off road, but still no damage. Also no oil surge even on the long high g corners which is handy.

Duncan, the JUN pump flows significantly more than the N1 pump, thus its reputation for quickly emptying a stock sump.

JUN pumps are best used with a large capacity sump, or a stock unit modified with an extension like the Trust.

For what its worth, I currently also run the Trust Sump, along with the JUN pump.

Im using the standard oil pump over N1. The N1 has a layered gearset which makes it more prone to cracking from vibrations caused by hitting the rev limiter hard with big power. Not an upgrade in my mind at all. I have fitted a JUN sump baffle to stop surge and plan to perhaps just over fill for track work. As far as 20% more flow goes with a JUN pump, im not sure thats really necessary. Providing you have good constant oil film pressure to the bearings and head whats the advantange of higher flow. I think the biggest gain with a Tomei or JUN pump is the billet gearset which is very strong and has a higher resistance to cracking. However $1200 for a 2nd hand Tomei pump was just getting too much. One of those oversize sumps would be nice but unless your going to be running times like the best of them, im not sure they're necessary either.
