just replaced my HKS air filter (on the pod) after 35k .. on the back of the packaging it says 6k-10k replace,, if i did that i would buy a filter every month and a half :)

I reckon after 25k if overly worried.. 6k seems too soon.

oiled foam filters normally need cleaning every 5k. the HKS oiled foam ones are known to be quite poor at filtration so i'd ditch it anyway.

nissan service schedule says 20k for air filter replacements - using the standard paper type of course.

apexi power intakes are "maintenance free" - when they start to look scungy you just buy a new one. certainly they filter the best out of the group, according to this old chestnut:

http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/

The "best" air filters are debatable.

Out of the reviews I've seen, Apexi, K&N & 3A Racing filters are the pop. As to which is better is debatable, and which ever you use is your personal choice.

I myself use a K&N Filter. Costs the same as an Apexi pod but at least its washable/reusable. $20-$30 bucks for a cleaning kit which will last you 5 oddish or so cleans. Beats paying $80 for a new pod every time.

As for ones who say K&N are AFM killers, its a bunch crapola. Mine has worked fine from the day I bought it and it has gone though 2 cleans already. Just don't over oil it and bobs your mothers brother. If it does get some oil on it, electrical contact cleaner is your friend.

I have two apexi filters... I had the first one on my 34GTT RB25DET(Neo) from 11/2004 till 7/2006.. then I swapped my engine for a RB26DETT. My roommate totaled his R33 gtst so I took his used apexi filter and my used apexi intake and put them on the RB26DETT. It's now 12/2007 and I still have yet to change my filters. Every once and a while when I'm washing out the engine bay I'll take'em off and blow them out real good with an air compressor... nothing more. they still look fairly new but I'm going to replace them in a few months anyways.. I'm getting two new Apexi filters and will probably keep them for another 4 years or so. They say it lasts a lifetime... It probably does if you maintain it real good.

You can order all kinds of filters thru www.rhdjapan.com. they ship to the US and they ship fast. prices are good. If you want the Apexi filter you might have to wait because Apexi went bankrupt and their products are out of stock... gotta wait in line.

I thought apexi going out of business was a false rumour. Or they were in trouble and things are looking fine now They certainly seem to be pumping out the PowerFC's as per normal.

I just bought secondhand Apexi pods so i too am interested in cleaning. I thought air compressor at a lowish setting would do the trick

they are not like k&n you cant clean and reoil type thing, they are not "the last air filter you will ever buy". they are a filter that needs to be replaced when it gets clogged. if you blow it out every 6 months or so, it will not get clogged  however, the more dirt on it, probably the better the air is filtered. happens with air handling units in hotels, or even at home. it gets finer and finer gaps until it is clogged and you need to clear it out or replace.

About 2 months ago I tried to order some apexi pods from japan... but their stock is low and it would take a while. A friend of mine in japan told me that apexi got sued by nissan because of the power fc... not really sure about the details or anything. Apexi is still alive but barely. My friends auto store in japan is pumping out madd power fc's just like everyone else. I think that's one of the reasons why apexi is still hanging on.

All that was info I heard about 2 months ago... it might be different now.

Apexi makes a good filter that'll last a long time if you take care of it... just clean it out everyother or third wash and you should be more than fine. I clean mine every couple of months or so (i'm lazy) but they're still in good condition.

oiled foam filters normally need cleaning every 5k. the HKS oiled foam ones are known to be quite poor at filtration so i'd ditch it anyway.

thats why you get the new dry 3 layer ones.. they are not oil based and last longer, i.e. you can wash them without removing something that should be there..

cheers.

i got mine from nengun

i have a blitz pod on my m35 stagea and i'm looking to get a new one. anyone no if i can just swop to an apexi filter with out buying the whole induction kit. i.e. will the apexi filter fit on the blitz intake?

Panel filters or the Apexi power intake filters are good, both paper element filters.

The foam filters tend to break and deteriorate over time, which means half of it ends up in your engine if you don't change the elements it on a regular bases.

Apexi power intake has been known to be one of the best filtering pod filters around. Very Good quality design, and lasts a long time.

    • I had never actually looked into it, but aren't onboard compressors a thing in trucks?
    • Read the ECU for fault codes or have someone else do it. A faulty coolant temperature sender is usually listed in ECUs. If the sensor itself is not busted it can also be a bad ground connection. Or in a really unlucky case, damaged wiring.
    • Can't be a Futjitsubo as those are made with a flex piece and Reimax is smaller in pipe diameter. If anything it is closest to a Mines pipe, but evidently it is not an actual Mines pipe.   Classic word humor
    • Alright I will try to not forget.   As GTSboy replied to you already, problem is mainly the mismatch between the actual exhaust part and the denomination in the papers. That basically just looks like tampering to a cop, if they were to check your car and notice. If it had been done right they would have clarified it to be a custom pipe and just given it a certain part number that you have to engrave or weld onto the pipe. I will definitely inquire on what to do. Changing the pipe wouldn't be my favorite solution as it costs a bunch of money and the cat was fitted with the front pipe and exhaust under the car, and if the front pipe flange does not sit in the OEM location the cat will need to be refit for any other pipe to work. It also usually doesn't need a brand name or something like that, but more something like a part number. Usually for exhaust parts, on silencers and cat units specifically, there is a badge that reads the certificate number that belongs to these exhaust parts under EU regulation. You get these numbers after you put a part or group of parts through the tedious testing according to EU vehicle legislation and they pass. You can find these "part numbers" on various parts throughout a EU vehicle. On windows, headlights, engine parts, seat belts and so on. All these parts have gone through standardized testing and acquired a so called ECE or EG Certificate that makes them legal to use by themselves in all countries that adhere to these standards. You can also not alter these parts in any way, if you do they become illegal. An example for stampings on an exterior lighting part, the people who need to know can find the documentation for this unit in a database. I do not know what all the standards and so on mean.
