Hi..

I'm in the market for an R34 GTT and heading down to Sydney (from QLD) in the new year to check out the larger market of R34 GTTs NSW has to offer. I expect to fly down to Sydney, stay approx 5 days in the Sydney area, and drive a privately purchased vehicle back. There's a number of issues I'm expecting to face such as the following:

  • Insurance for a NSW registered car that isn't yet in my name (would like to have insurance for the drive back).
  • NSW Safety Cert for vehicle and mechanical inspection given tight timeframes.
  • REVS check and possible financial encumberance.
  • Transfer of bank funds (purchasing outright).
  • QLD Safety Cert and rego when arriving back in QLD.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I expect it to be a bit on an adventure and any advice is good advice.

Thanks,

Dan

transferring the money just go to the bank and do a tranfer.

putting the car in ur name you just get a qld roadworthy and go to the dot like usual with ur receipt and rwc and its done.

If the car is purchased with a few months remaining on the NSW rego, does that 3 months $$ of rego get transferred to the QLD rego?

Dan

Is that a refund from QLD Transport or the seller?

It would be from NSW transport. You'd have to mail them the plates and they'll mail you out a cheque for the remaining rego.

You'd need to do a transfer of ownership. Shouldn't be difficult to do, just download the forms of the Queensland transport website before you head down so that if you need to get the old owner to sign them, you can.

Insurance. Just ring them up on the day and take out a policy on the vehicle. You get a cooling off period (either 14 or 28 days, I can't remember) where you can cancel it before having to pay any money (unless you crash it in that time, then naturally they'll expect you to pay up) (Used to be that you'd get a cover letter for a short period, but I'm not sure if insurance companies do that any more, Just car's didn't for me)

Have you looked around up here for a R34 first though? I know that there have been plenty for sale over the past year.

no but you may be able to get a refund from the remaining nsw rego

You'll be lucky to get $5 from the NSW RTA after "fees".

You should get something back from the greenslip provider...maybe $100 or so. (assuming the greenslip cost 4-500 to start with)
