Hey Abu - I've been alright mate. Let us know how you find it with the stock airbox on without any modifications done to the box.

I guess it might not increase HP with a pod (i guess it also depends on what brand/type as there's some shoddy ones around), but for me it has definately felt more punchier, especially in the higher rpm range for some reason i have noticed.

Interesting none-the-less.

Will post up results when once I get the air box on.

Yeah wouldn't be an increase in HP, just response if anything but would get plenty of heat soak. You can feel the hot air as soon as you open the bonnett from driving so you can imagine that pod filter just sucking it all up when you take off at the lights or from standing still like GTST was saying.

When freeway driving or moving it would be fine as constant air flow would be coming through from outside so you generally get boost pretty quick I reckon.

Will be interesting to see either way.

Even with the air box I get a loud spool, but nothing like with the pod.

I think I will unblock the BOV as well and have it running like stock, all smooth like from factory :D

years ago I also posted some results I got with a JAYCAR temp probe using pod, shielded pod and airbox in different conditions like traffic, 60kms/h, 100kms/h etc..

If you feel like searching...

is this your old R32? http://www.pbase.com/the_r32/inbox

I tried having a quick look but I couldn't find it.

Works out anyways so I will have a look when I get home.

Thanks for the info.

Anyways, I will put the air box back on tonight with a new panel filter so see how that goes.

just make sure you make a CAI for it.

i went down to the local car wash who are pricks and cut a half metre off their thick vacuum cleaner hose!

i pressure cleaned it of course :D

LOL thats gold, never thought of that hahaha

Yeah will setup a CAI duct, will look sick in the GTR bar :)

I'm currently at 268rwkw on 15psi with my stock airbox and umm still running with a stock paper filter. (but with a 100mm cai in to its base).

Next time I'm on the dyno and pushing 300rwkw+ I'll lift the lid off and see if there's any difference.

I doubt it personally primarily due to the 100mm cai i have carved in to the bottom of the box.

Thats a fair effort man, will be keen to see results at the 300rwkw mark with the lid off/on.

Is there much difference with/without the CAI?

Got my stock air box back on, seems pretty punchy and don't seem to get that flat spot I was getting just under 3,000rpm anymore.

Seems to hold about 0.85bar boost very smoothly with NO BC on stock turbo

Anyways pretty happy with the results, just need to change the foam filter to a paper and I'll be all set :bunny:

I experimented on my 32 gtr, which runs 14psi @ a cat back xzaust. I bought the car with blitz suflow (mesh type) pods fitted. The previous owner gave me the stock airbox with a k&n. Did a swappsies cause i wanted that factory look aswell as hooking it up to the factory cai/resonator setup. I lost ~1psi of boost pressure, the intake sound disappeared and it was a lot slower getting onto boost. felt very sluggish & revved so much slower up top. Couldnt believe the difference

After finding a thread which was currently on the go comparing hte exact same comparisions (and a ~35kw diff on the dyno) some of the guys were only leaving the top 1/2 of hte box in place. Tried that & siliconed the k&n into place. Results: factory look (unless u look close up), top end power back, good spool rate back and some induction noise back, but not as loud as the pods.

If it's going into the bottom of the box, wouldn't that air then be bypassing the filter?

ay guys,

i was thinkin the other day about snorkels and stuf that directs cold air to the air filter and i was wondering if it made a different with turbo cars.. cauz when the turbo compresses the air dosnt it turn hot anyway??

The R32's use a typical airbox setup. The r33's are upside down which makes it difficult to get a decent cai in to them.

Regardless, the cooler the air the cooler it is going to come out the other end.

The reason the air heats is due to compression + lack of compressor efficiency; the higher the efficiency (look at a few compressor maps and the efficiency islands) the less heat that is introduced in to the air = increased density/oxygen = bigger bang.

Shit.. I forgot all about that site... lol..

thanks man..

Time to move those photos..

yes that was mine..

Makes me want another one now.. :bunny:

had a little ARC SMIC tucked away in that front corner too.

actually.. in this pic

you can see the little Jaycar temp display near the ashtray..

and in this photo

you can see the dodgey white cable running across the firewall down to wards the turbo area, which then heads to the airbox and the probe was screwed in to one of the AFM bolt holes.

So the air temp reading was taken as it entered the afm.

Looks almost identical to my car man, same kit except I got a GTR front bar and mines heaps lower.

Radiator was an aftermarket item.

well not so much aftermarket..

more from another car.

it was twice a thick and a little wider and a little taller.

ARC intercooler was good.

wasn't really pushed much.

I only had 155rwkw with 11psi

is that with the stock turbo?
