Line
Hi, I'm a new a new member here. My car is a black 96 R33 GTR. It's pretty much stock standard, except exhaust. It's in pretty good condition. I've had it for about 6 weeks; taken it to Autotech in Fyshwick for a service/check over. Really good service there I've had it put on a dyno too, running 204Kw at the wheels I have a couple questions: I think my car is a V-spec, it's got the V-spec sticker on the back. Although it just looks like a sticker...does anyone know a way to determine if it is a real V-Spec? I need to put some new Tyres on it; it's got the stock rims on it still. So I will be going for the factory standard for tyres. 245/45/17 I want tyres that will provide good handling in both wet and dry. Can anyone recommend which tyres would be suitable? I'll be looking to do some modifications in the future, probably new computer, bigger injectors, and possibly replacing the turbos + intercooler. Thanks in advance Edited December 12, 2007 by Line Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/197311-new-member/ Share on other sites
Bullet32
Hey, Welcome. Nice, R33 GTR's arent to common around here I think that an obvious way to tell if youre car is genuine V-Spec would be the brakes? I think that the R33 GTR V-Spec has Brembos on it and the normal GTR doesnt... I could be wrong. If youre after tyres... I can help Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/197311-new-member/#findComment-3528152 Share on other sites
datto260Z
lol, I was wondering when Mick would jump in, go the Federals from him, they are proving themselves all the time. Welcome and look forward to meeting you some time. Do you have the weekend free to come on the drive down the coast? I think we are going Saturday morning and back in the arvo. Line
Yeah, it's got Brembo brakes. It must be a real V-spec then I was previously looking at Yokohama tyres. S-Drive or A-Drive tyres appear to be decent. I'm checking the Federal tyres now; which would be the better tyre 595EVO or 595? I have Pirelli tyres now which are a little bit worn and handling in the wet is terrible with these. It's almost not safe to drive in the wet it is that bad Although they have decent handling in the dry. What is the handling like with these Federals in the wet? Hmm...this weekend is not good for me Maybe another time! Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/197311-new-member/#findComment-3528287 Share on other sites
Bullet32
Unfortunately the 595 EVO isnt available in your size yet, its still a very new tyre and we have limited sizes available. But we have the 595 available and I personally use them aswell as a lot of other Skyliners here. They are in my opinion the best "Bang for your buck" tyre available on the market. Ask around and you'll get great reviews Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/197311-new-member/#findComment-3528379 Share on other sites

CeJay
You can also get your car fasted, ie get the japanese vin, search for nissan fast in the forums, and someone should be able to tell you more about the car through nissan fast software, presume it would tell you if it was a v spec or not. BNR32t
The Vspecs didnt have ABS. and i am sure that the r33 GTR's s2 came with brembos in the later half of production Vspec or not. a20089
Hi Line, Welcome to Skylines Australia (Canberra region) There seems to be a little miss information here about your car which I'll try to clear up. FYI I own a R33 GTR as well. Your car sounds a lot like the NSW plated NIS67R that came to our dyno day, last owned by a person working in Civic. We'd all love to see the car one Friday. 1. The very best way to determine if your car is a v-Spec is to check on the Vin number on the following thread http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Ni...&start=1060 2. Tell tail signs are: Vspec has active LSD (a yellow light in the dash) Vpsec has the faster attesa computer 1/1000th of a second rather than 1/100th (not visually noticable) Vspec has stiffer suspension stock 10mm lower (not visably noticable) 10kg more weight (not visably noticable) A Vspec sticker Air difusers for the front brakes Slightly better ABS (not visually noticable) finned rear diff Note: Brembo's were fitted to all R33 GTR's Tyres: As for tyres I'm running the older school Federal 595 SS's and they didn't come up to my standards in the wet, when warmed up a bit they were fine. I'm running a 255 size. I'f your just running around town they are all right and the BEST price bang for buck around. Not sure on my next tyre choice, probably Federal's since Mick's such a nice guy, but I know I want a set of 595 RS semi slicks for the track. See modification for the best enhancements for grip in any weather. Modifications: Mods depend on many factors, including your budget ,desire for the car and fear of being defected. The single best mod I've made is a torque computer as this link describes: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Gt...nt-t126694.html I've gone through the "fun" of some upgrades and have some good and bad stories to tell, and what I would do differently. That would take too long in this thread but come out to the Museum one night when I'm there and I'll tell all... Michele
595RS's FTW I run Federal 595RS's and prefer them in the wet to my so called top shelf Falkens and they hot hot hot on the track, plus they shaved over 2 seconds off my lap times at the hillclimb... might not sound like much, but when you consider its only 47-48 seconds to get around that track... two seconds is a lot. Line
Thanks for the info. Posted my VIN. A20089, You are right, it is the same car I'll have to take a look at the Torque computer. I'm interested in doing some serious modifications to my car in time. Probably not for a while at this point or I'll go for some minor modifications soon. I'm not sure yet. I'll send you a PM about the tyres, Mick. Thanks. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/197311-new-member/#findComment-3529960 Share on other sites
Frink
welcome! you know, there were actually more V-Spec R33 GTR's than non V-Spec GTR's... Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/197311-new-member/#findComment-3530005 Share on other sites
Line
Hmm...that is interesting. I always assumed a V-spec is kind of like a limited edition and not many of them would be around. I did see another one the other day. R33 GTR V-spec, very dark purple or black in Dickson; it was hard to tell. It had the boot key hole...which mine does not have. Is this series specific? I have no idea which series mine is. Maybe Nissan Fast will be able to provide this information, hopefully. Baconer
the boot and spoiler i bought was from a Vspec and it had a boot key hole. Pretty sure all of them have it, whoever owned yours previously probably had it shaved off. Way to tell would be to look at it from the underside Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/197311-new-member/#findComment-3530312 Share on other sites
a20089
If the same car then we can confirm the dyno reading then :-) http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Dy...html&st=100 R33 GTR Car yard 203.5kw Your car as per last time I saw it had pod filters and an exhaust but little else. Very nice interior. Now prepare yourself for some big $'s if modifying and doing the real deal. See how much money you have left after paying for fuel, insurance and tyres :-) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/197311-new-member/#findComment-3530801 Share on other sites
Line
Yeah, I've got 203.5KW on a Dyno sheet from Ultimate Tunes in Phillip for Skyline Dyno day. Looks like it is the same car Yes, it has HKS Pod filters as well. Besides the exhaust, everything else is standard that I know of. I'll only need to pay for the tyres now, insurance etc is already sorted I've been looking around for prices on modification. I agree it is expensive, but I think it will be worth it. Still. I'll probably wait a while before I do anything serious. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/197311-new-member/#findComment-3532194 Share on other sites
