Water Temp Gauge?

ok i think this is probably a general enquiry but being a turbo car im gonna post it here.

its probably a silly question, but quite a few months ago i was driving on the hwy, when i noticed my water temp on my power fc begin climbing, slowly but constantly it went from 80 to 90 and then continued to 100 where i then pulled over to check wat was going on and found that there was a blockage and no water in the radiator, any way this is not my problem, the problem is my actuall water temp gauge on the dash did not move an inch?? can anyone tell me why?

as above, the stock temp gauges in the cluster literally only show if the temp is cold, warm, or way too hot.

Its a three step gauge so that the average commuter isn't worried when thier new 50k saloon starts getting hotter on a summer day in traffic.

hmm ok thanks guys, can you then tell me when it does move to TOO F'N HOT at what sort of tempretures??
