Blown Turbo ???

Well last night we went for a bit of a drive down the coast, on the way home I noticed she was sounding a little funny, then when I went to put the foot down she was definately sluggish and the boost just wasn't there. It got home alright, i opened up the bonnet and there was definately some funny noises (rattle/clicking) coming from the turbo, then I went back and stuck my head up behind the car, and there was also a bit of a rattle coming from the exhaust somewhere, couldn't exactly pin point but definately sounded like there was something in there.

Am I right thinking i've done the turbo wheel ? It's sunday and I can't really do much till tomorrow.

I heard when you've done a turbo your car starts blowing black smoke, is this happing at all....

I don't know if it's blowing any smoke, it doesn't really bother me THAT much as I was looking at getting a new turbo anyway, but now i'm not sure if I wanna rebuild mine, or whether i'm gunna get a VG30 or what. Looking at something cheapish but that's gunna reap some decent performance gains.

black smoke is unburnt fuel.....

look for white/ white with blueish tinge this will tell if the seals have gone and youre burning oil.. check oil levels, and also general noises etc. if anything sounds dodgey unplug it and have a closer look/take it to a pro!

The most cost effective upgrade for you would be the VG30. You can get one for about $350ish, compared to $1300ish to rebuild yours and the difference in power wouldn't be that much.
