I think the problem is that Stagea are too bloody long

I mean I even think my R33 is too bloody long, it's less than 10cm shorter than my dad's Liberty

A small - mid size car with 4 doors 4 the family I'd probably go for a WRX or EVO

out of your list, get the 180sx.

outside that..

Legnum VR4 Wagon.

Stags are too heavy.

1710kg are they?

Legnum VR4 is you want a wagon

Galant VR4 if you want a sedan

AWD + twin turbo V6, increase the boost a bit and you got easy 13's.

Thanks guys, the audi might be worth looking into actually, Oh and to answer a few questions;

No kids, and no plans at this stage.

It will be a combined thing - we are getting married in two months.

And yes, I am whipped... :(

+1 FOR A STAGEA

My missus was dark at me for not buying her a corolla (!) but after she drove it, she reckons it was the first car she ever came emotionally attached to. They go pretty well when stock (well, compared to a commonwhore of foulcan wagon anyway) you have all the same mod options of a skyline, about 10 times the interior room, and the NVH and build quality far surpass any other wagon I have ever driven.

what dale said

sold my skyline for a stagea, best thing i have ever done.

id rather nissan build quality over mitsubish build quality any day ;)

Can't believe she ruled out the BMW though. Those things tend to ride really well and are quite comfortable. Visibility is also quite good.

I would have tried to score an E36 325i coupe or something.

Here's an idea - E36 325i Convertible (assuming you can find one in budget, I don't know what they're going for). Chicks dig convertibles, which may get it past the Minister of Finance. And you still get to keep a proper FR car, with a really nice inline 6.

For god's sake, do not get a 4 cylinder 3 Series either.

Edited by scathing

I tried showing her a Z3 on **car sale website** while watching an old top gear, and at that moment they had the cool wall, pulled out the Z3 and placed it in uncool, then rubbished bmw's... not kidding, since then she wont look at any bmw

Old mercs are very cool, very pimpin', just not really my thing, not a bad idea tho

The Z3 was rubbish and uncool, but that doesn't mean the rest of the range are that bad.

And most of the Top Gear stuff is stupid. Entertaining, but about as connected with reality as A Current Affair's latest piece on hoons.

LOL, i was in the same boat as you, same price range too...but unlike you I had my way and got the skyline (had some help with mother-in-law to persude her to give in).

Some things that I had to look for was must be automatic (she can't drive manual), must have some oommph (turbo, supercharger etc) and relatively small so she can park it (the R34 was slightly smaller than her old Magna).

Some cars that we both looked at, all 2nd hand:

- Lancer EVO: she didn't like the 'handbag' stock spoiler

- Mini S cooper: 2nd hand auto was way too expensive, i think they were like 40K

- Suburu WRX: didn't know if previous user would have thrashed it or not plus too common

- Ford XR5

- Lexus IS200

- Mercedes C class

- New Toyota Corolla: My old car was a corolla so didn't want to have another one.

- Toyota Celica

I did tell her however that the next car we get is totally up to her to decide.

IMO, try a lancer EVO, even though its 4 doors they look good.

try Ferrari 360! your girl will definitely like it . . .

though its too expensive!

Congratulations, you've added nothing to the thread.

No idea WTF you bothered posting that for...

On to the topic at hand, Id shoot for the 180 out of that list. The 300 isnt as nice looking and its engines apparently are difficult to work on (and as such expensive) when something lets go. The supra would be a tad expensive for the 20k price range. You might scrape into one but youll be compromising the quality of the end result.

The 180 is a really nice looking car, the boot is reasonable (better than S13 silvia because of hatch nature - more room to put things in aswell), has 4 seats (albeit limited rear legroom... so just make sure you are driving or have shotgun :) ), and are reasonably quick and not expensive to get some quite decent performance out of.

Basically, for around 12 - 15 you could have a brilliant example of one with some work done to it so that it would look great, be quite quick and surprisingly practical for what it is.

Then some cash left over to cover whatever else you need to (say insurance/rego/modifications )
