A friend of mine told me that there were new hooning laws that came into effect today. Apparently the police have the right to put a wheel brace on your car for up to 6 months for hooning. Apparently just taking off or reving your car loud is now considered hooning. Has anyone else heard something along those lines?

When I was out tonight I just drove past the Netley police station (on the opposite side of the road to the station) normally and I had a cop car pull across all lines of traffic to follow me down a side street. I rounded the corner nice and easily and sat on 50 in the side street. basically didn't give him a reason to pull me up. He then floored it to go past me and went around a round about crazily, no lights flashing what-so-ever. If that is not hooning I don't what is. But then again, there's a rule for us and a rule for them. :)

Are these hooning laws about public safety or revenue? I only ask cos a lot of cops don't have the public safety in mind when they are driving around, i.e. like tonight.

Yeh unfortunately for you and me and everyone else out there, cops are exempt under the road traffic act in case of emergencies, so what that means is he can speed if he has a reasonable reason. So when his pizza is ready for pickup at Dominos and he doesn't want it to get cold, he can speed!?

As per a previous post on a different thread but still applies here. :)

very well said....... maybe if i strap lights to my mums white commie i can be a leagal hoon 2 ?? no? as u said a rule for us and a rule for them :) so sad but true

Pretty sure an undercover (or just an idiot) xr6t tried to provoke me to race about 10 mins ago, followed me out of bp pretty much tailing me as soon as i passed them from where they were parked, lost them in traffic thinking they were sus, then they lane weaved and had a rolling start from the lights and flew past me rediculously, i was getting to speed faster than normal but they were gaining on me like nothing. So if the new law is true then i was definitely being provoked. But thats jumping to conclusions, could just be a Ford lover.

uh, dude, thats pretty much always been true.

theres very little in the way of a set definition for what is hooning/streetracing or whatever.

its all up to the officers discretion... which is disgusting really.

was it gold with young bloke driving, if so not under cover and he has about 330rwkw

Unfortunately, the truth is cops do abuse powers & privelages.

Earlier this year I got escorted to the watch house 7am in the morning in the back of a patrol car (wasnt in any trouble, just broke the law a little  ), i was chatting to the driving female officer about cars as she said she quite admired my 33. We got talking about the Holden pursuit cars that they use, and also the one that i was sitting in. To give me a demo, she hung it sideways onto King William st. turning left from North Tce!!!! i couldnt help but laugh at the time, but its just a prime example!

Apart from that incident, I actually got done by means of the 'hoon' law in 2006. The cops didnt impound my car - but still, the offence came up in court and i paid the price.

Drive like a toolbox where applicable. Not in areas where you endanger the safety of others and make noticable undue noise - it pisses other people on the road and residents right off.

Like i seen the other night, some absolute tosser going up and down the street and repeatedly trying to drift around a big roundabout in his 33. Thats just asking for it.

Wanna do some drifting? take it to the industrials FFS... and dont get caught!

Cops nowdays are well aware of what skylines and other vehicles of the like are capable of. If they see anyone in cars like ours doing any silly shit and creating attention to themselves, they will enforce these powers, no bloody questions asked!

I know there have been hooning laws for a while now, I was just wondering if the wheel brace thing and reving your engine is something new. Maybe there is nothing in this or nothing new. I am all for having hooning laws, especially when there are a lot of idiot p-plate drivers out there that have just got there licence and think that they are Michael Schumacher. I am not worried about them killing themselves, I just don't want them to take innocent people out with them. If there are to be hooning laws then they should apply equally to everyone and not just import drivers. The number dungadoores I see hooning around with nothing but sticky tape holding the doors on. It makes my hair hurt. :(

the wheel brace is definitely a new thing. they used to just impound your car before - and probably still do that too.

when they say revving your engine - they wouldnt mean sitting and revving it on the spot, more like driving the whole of second gear into the very high rev ranges - classified as 'undue noise'. Plenty of cars are big racket makers at high revs - especially ours!

I remember years ago before all the hoon law bullshit, the on the spot fine for undue noise was under 100 bucks!!!! Me and the mates had welded up the diff in an old import 1970's corolla coupe. Pure hoon box this thing. Lost it sideways turning onto a main road. The whole thing happened right in front of a cop. He walks over to the car calmly, tells us to pull it over to the footpath, lights up a cigarette, calls us dickheads, and fines us $75 dollars for undue noise!

Hacksaw / Chainsaw /C4 > wheel brace.

who cares about the cops though seriously, sure it pisses everyone off but going vigilante on the forums isn't going to solve the problem. half of them are pricks and the other half i haven't met yet.

if all turbo imports and P platers didnt give them a reason to pull us over then im sure they wouldnt.

^^ Most p plate drivers..

They brought the wheel brace in because they're running out of room to put impounded cars, and they will usually have the car wheel braced in ya yard/driveway as a reminder .. And it would suck to be able to see ya pride and joy sitting in the driveway and not be able to drive it.

word from my mate who got it from his old lady who read it in the news

the car clamp is up to 90 days and its not just hooning, its cars caught repeatedly unregistered, drink driving or vehicles caught in association with vandalism

was it gold with young bloke driving, if so not under cover and he has about 330rwkw

Pretty sure it was a light blue colour, (maybe blue lightning or lighter) but nevertheless tailgating me as soon as i left was enough to stir me up.

end rant.

I would prefer it in my driveway much more than at an impound yard. At least then you can keep and eye on it and know how it is being treated.

On the plus side, if you own a 33 you know it wouldn't be stolen

im sure they'd find a way

or maybe they would just take of the rim is that possible.

whats stopping a person who has their car clamped from taking the rim off and just using stockies at the front. lol.

The clamp could have something to prevent access to the lugnuts?

    • Is anyone running these axles? R32, R33, R34 GTR front Axles. shafts itself rated 950hp. Suit all RB26 engines Croydon, Melbourne, Victoria Would be nice to pay half the cost of Driveshaft Shop Axles. I'm building an AWD S13 Coupe that is very low ride height (high cv angle) compared to stock R32. Has an RB30 with appx 600whp. Just looking for feedback. • Been a long time since r31 got some love, my brother dropped a shitbox ls1 crapadore in my lap to fix up.  Put a wiper motor in as the flooded one was no longer alive.  got windscreen wipers now. Time to clean respray and install back in the titanic  IMG_0505.mov

    • Thread bump, again! Although, no bad news this time. Posting for the sake of possible root cause. Basically, I rebuilt it (mostly stock), installed Haltech + sensors, had it running fine on new ECU.  Still not really understanding why it cracked pistons last time. Got to tuners, and while checking timing, noticed +-10deg of timing scatter while revving. Changed CAS, and it was rock solid. While not definitive, can't imagine seeing 20+ psi with that amount of scatter would be a good thing. Also glad I found something.   Bit more of a run down; Carried out a stock rebuild, a set of stock pistons, out of a spare bottom end. Everything stock apart from head studs and oil restrictors. (so I can pretend I didn't let the Nissan out, ha.) Armed with the measuring gear and FSM, set about doing overhaul. Oil restrictors as per oil control thread for a RB25, stock oil pump, drifting. Head drain/vent from rear of head, to passenger side of sump above oil level. Two dash 10 vent lines from drivers side of sump (unused atm) Hi octane style cam cover breather kit Splash covers over last 2 cam caps. Both breather lines from cam covers to vented to atmosphere catch can, not plumbed back into sump (wanted to see what it was actually breathing). Got it run in (did about a 1000km) no to low boost scenario, As I had questions over old ECU setup. Installed haltech +sensors for flex Retune on E85 (finding CAS Issue along the way), made 300rwkw at 20psi, out of wastegate. Did a drift day the next day (yes, it was a big weekend!) and was checking catch can throughout the day, ZERO blowby. I mean nothing. Lines from cam covers are not even wet. Done a bunch of street driving, spirited and catch can is still dry. Early days I guess, but pretty happy so far. Also now run 10w60, up from the 10w40 that I used to run. Oil pressure is significantly better, especially when hot (as you would expect)
