fair enuff they can speed i say, it is a necessity... and of course some will abuse it, its human nature (i know i would be tempted to if i had that power  ). One thing no one has mentioned is how much trouble the police get in if they get in an accident while travelling over the speed limit (the word reamed comes to mind).

its not just trying to set the land speed record in a commonwhore on a donut run and damn the consequences  they are very accountable for their actions, more so than the public (they just have different parameters to behave within)

Very true.

I have a mate who was responding to a house on fire with an aggressive male out the front refusing to allow firies to do their thing. Long story short, he was zapped by a flash for cash doing 84km/h in a 50km/h zone while in a marked car enroute to assist firies. Received a $450 odd fine (including the relevant demerits - 6 I think) which he is having a shiteload of trouble getting out of. Fine goes to him personally.

Even anti-Police types out there must think this is rediculous? Otherwise, watch the response times blow out...

If they cop this type of scrutiny over legit urgent driving, who in their right mind would risk the shitestorm that would come their way for a bit of hoooning?

Out.

A cop in a cop car responding to a legit emergency will always get off a fine because they are exempt under the road traffic act.

If your mate is having trouble, he's not telling you the full story.

Not true.

It is very easy to verify whether an officer is responding to a legit emergency.

All it takes is a minor breach in procedures, like lights activated but no siren for the officer involved to either wear the fine, or be internally charged.

Second, it is a judgement call made by someone (not a Police Officer so they have no idea what the job is like) in the Police Complaints Authority (usually a lawyer) who decides whether or not the officer wears the fine based on the speed, time of day etc. The officer's judgement is being constantly called into question by someone who has never ridden in their shoes.

I am beginning a rant but my mate is telling the full story, and there have apparently been close to 20 fines lately where officers have been responding to legit emergencies that have been forwarded for prosecution so no, they do not automatically get off speeding fines if responding to an emergency.

SAPol is trying to obtain a squeaky clean "We are not above the law" image for the sake of appearances with the resultant persecution of hard working people heading towards things that most people run away from...

I will leave it at that.

Not a bad thing IMO

resultant persecution of hard working people heading towards things that most people run away from...

Don't like their methods however.

It's a thankless job I wouldn't do, and people should remember that if we piss off all the people that WILL, then no-one will be left to do it.

    • Regardless, its peace of mind swapping the factory twins for something else. Personally if it was me: Link G4X Additional sensors for engine protection Twins Oil pump mods(maybe throw extension to sump) injectors/Pump Clutch Exhaust Oil Cooler Good pads/suspension Should be good for 3-350kw depending. Granted thats closer to 15k but still.
    • I think you are over thinking it again
    • My R33 never ran more than stock boost but it was unclear whether the turbos would last. Maybe OP's car is less of a question mark but for my stock turbos had over 175k km on them + 25 years of use. That's a very long time to hope nobody has ever accidentally put physical shock through them, no debris in the exhaust gas stream, no boost leaks that could cause the compressor to spin faster than it otherwise should, no oil coking in the journals, no wear scars for any reason, etc. You could pull the turbos and disassemble to inspect/overhaul as needed but for that kind of effort you may as well replace the ceramic turbine with something that can take a bit more abuse no matter what you find in there. Stock boost ceramic turbos really don't make that much power either.
    • A Pillar forward?   The part above I was just looking at was the reo bar, I'd replace it, UNLESS the panel beater is GOOD. From your early photos, it did look like the chassis might be tweaked, or at the very least there was tweaks in radiator support. I'd personally do a new / second hand unmolested reo bar, and drill it, only so I know underneath the pretty painted front bar, there's not a mess of other metal that's been hit and smacked.
    • Yes no yes. Pineapple rings do do a certain amount of subframe "locking up", in that they do add some resistance to lateral movements. But the primary reason they exist is to alter the driveline angle. Depending on how you install them you can either increase or decrease rear traction __ a little bit __ by changing the angle of the lower control arms relative to the car/pinion angle. The thing is, given what they are, how and where they are installed, their lack of engagement with anything in particular, there's a limit to how much benefit they can offer. The GKTech collars put metal into the space in the stock format bushes, thereby limiting how much give they have. The rubber is still there to take up some force, albeit perhaps preloaded a little by having some extra metal jammed up into it, but the increase in stiffness comes from making it so that the stock format bush can't deflect that large bit of rubber over into the space adjacent to it, in any direction. Top AND bottom. Which the pineapples certainly do not do. As I said in my other thread - I'm convinced.
