Hi fellow stagea owners I NEED YOUR HELP!!! My stagea was steaming up alot and had a bad smell coming in from the vents then i noticed a wet patch on my passenger footwell OH NO! water was coming in from up in the well!! Im sure its the heater matrix which has gone, so im wondering if any of you guys can tell me do i need a stagea matrix or will any of the skyline or any other nissan ones fit and if so is it a huge job to fit it or can anyone have ago at it?

Any help will be gratefully apprectiated thanks.

hey your heater core has gone by the sounds of it

go into the engine bay and disconnect the hose that goes into the firewall above the turbo heatshield, just under around bonnet height. probbaly best if I take a photo to show it.

I have heard you can use a 300zx heater core, I ordered one months ago for $220 and have never seen it (better check my visa card actually) so i cant confirm.

My local radiator peeps have quoted me $450 to rip out the dash and put back together, plus the core which is $500 from japan with new brass fittings

it's a biatch of a job!

i took mine out of my R33, and even with no intentions of putting the dash back in, it was quite a job.

you basically have to remove the entire dash, and everything in the way of the core...

dunno about a skyline one fitting, although the dash is a very different shape, but heater cores are pretty much the same regardless of make or model aren't they? You will only be restricted by inlet/outlet size, and what will actually fit in the hole left by the other one.

as for it being a hard job? To be honest, not really. It is a long, involved and fiddly job, but there is nothing that is very technically demanding about it. Same as everything else, if you take your time, pay close attention to how things come apart, and bag and label everything you take off, then you will be fine. I do recomend that you have a digital camera on hand to take photo's as you go - this can be an invaluable tool when it comes time to reassemble.

Ditto on what Stinky Rooster said.

I've done this on an R31 Skyline and VC Commodore, except had A3 pieces of paper

on the garage floor with bolts laid out in position relative to the dash position.

Took 5-6hrs taking my time on a Saturday with a few ciggie/drink breaks in between.

Do it yourself take your time and save $$$$.

Don't shoot the messenger as I have not done it myself yet.

YEAH, I have heard that in an auto you can get to the heater core thru the glovebox area, but need to disconnect air conditioning and regass afterwards.

yes i can say taking the dash apart is a killer of a job, finding all those damn screws and clips is a job in itself :rofl: Good luck, dont forget there is a couple of screws in the demister vents and they are hard to see unless u look through from the outside of the windscreen. These 2 bolts prevented me removing the dash for a day as i couldnt work out for the life of me what was holding it on

Ive just taken my heater matrix out by removing the glove compartment then the a/c unit.

Its easy.You will have to get the a/c unit regassed. you can give the a/c unit a good clean as its out, mine was quite mucky.

      Ha ha ha, mine loves to spend, all on the dogs (they're our kids, and her spending would likely rival that of some people raising children!) the only benefit is, her spending is tax deductible as she runs a business in the dog industry 😛 The above all means she can spend race car budget quicker than I can. 😛 That and a lot of the things I want are very expensive, and I can be a bit "you want how much for that?!" And at other times overly impulsive. Or I start the w days of research, get to day 1.5 and get really annoyed that no one will advertise actual specifics and it's just marketting BS and I go "well, now I don't want anything to do with that now!" Also I hate paying lots of money for something I can make from $50 in materials. Then I get the shits halfway through making things and wonder why others who just buy parts have more fun... 😛

      Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise It's such a cool thing in so many ways Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it

      Good tips, I like it! 😂😂 My wife is a LOT more frugal than me so it's only me we need to worry about! A splurge to her is buying 2 pairs of socks in one visit at Kmart!

      Haha, the appropriate response to the question "Is this new?" is "I've had this for a while.". With the unspoken small print that a while may be the time since this morning or five years ago   And to be fair I learned that from the best, i.e. my wife. Because it goes both ways.

      Yeah kids certainly add a whole another dimension to your life.  Life ceases to be about you and more about them for a while!  And I wouldn't have it any other way.  I love watching them play sport and make new friends along the way. Wow, sounds like your mate is a good guy to know!!!  He's got some serious toys in the toy box!  Yes it would be lovely to be able to do stuff to your car without getting all tied up in boring shit like how to pay for it!!  I would describe my spending style as "aggressively spontaneous and logical but regrettable purchasing"....  That will hopefully make no sense at all which would be appropriate given that is how I buy stuff.  I'll decide at the drop of a hat that I'm buying something expensive, research the living shit out of it for 2 days straight then go out and buy it.  Then I'll have instant buyers remorse for 2 days which generally passes by the time it turns up on the front step!  If I'm feeling ballsy sometimes I'll tell my wife.  Other times it just makes its way silently passed the house and out the back to the shed, never to be spoken of again...
