when and where are track days in qld? everyone talks about doing trackdays and so on but i just cant seem to find any info on when they are on.

yeah there is a little bit of info on qld raceway site, but very little, im just looking for some more info and requirements etc

also when doing a track day, must the car be registered etc?

If you look on the QR website you'll see a thing called a calendar. it lists the dates of the tracks bookings etc for the year.

Saturday sprints, wednesday sprints, etc etc

Cars dont need rego on a closed track.

They just need to be safe

I'm looking to get to the track early next year after I sort a few small things out on my car. QR means Qld Rail to me.. I'm sure you mean qld racing or something though?

www.queenslandraceway.com.au

try this!!

as well as the calendar there is also entry form and conditions.

i am hoping to start early next year. The sprints are the best for beginners

thanks for that, anymore info would be great as i think many people are interested in doing track day or two every now and then. maybe when one comes up, a topic could be started about it, and maybe a meeting point where we could all head out even if it was just to spectate.

Well you've got a topic going now so ask what you need and Im sure all those who have the answers will give them.

The whole idea of the Qld Raceway Saturday arvo sprints is for people in their road cars to get time on a race track.

Make sure your car is safe, you have a helmet and acceptable clothing and away you go.

Licences can be purchased there on the day, but you must book in early as its popular

so what are peoples thoughts on a good reliable track car that doesnt blow the budget but can also be used as a daily?

eg, skyline 32, commonwhore? falcon? escort?

something that is easy to set up, doesnt require massive $$$ put in yet is competitive

Simple. Such a thing doesn't exist.

So what you're after is a Porsche GT3 for under $3000? Well hey, they're everywhere. Ive seen some at Hobby World with hand controller for around $500 for a Tamiya. Some of the gas powered ones are pretty quick too and with a little practice in the local Coles carpark you too will be an Ayrton Senna.

Seriously, as what djr81 said... There exists no car in the world that is competetive, costs stuff all and is available in 1/1 scale.

If all you want to do is muck around for fun, go buy an S13 and roll up to your local track on a public day, pay your money and be happy with what you achieve.

If you want to get serious, open up the wallet, get out the credit card and prepare to make a serious hole in it.

The CHEAPEST way to be competitive is to buy someone elses race car they've already spent the time and money developing. It'll be cheaper then building your own by far. However it'll still cost $20,000 plus to get something thats actually fastish

Thanks Eug, I've been away for a few days. We will be running 7 to 9 full days next year and launching our Time Attack Series. The rules have been bounced around the group for a month or so and will be up on the web site soon. I have sponsors on board so we will have event shirts and trophies at the end of the year.

Go to www.TimeAttack.com.au and fill out the Join Now page. I will add you to the mailing list and will have info out about next year soon.

This is the guy I bought mine from about 5 years ago:

Chris Wedding 5547 7394 or 0419 649 510

A Standard 2000 kg GTM Car Trailer has the following:

- 4.3 x 1.9 load area (my R32 GTR just fit on there with an inch or two to spare either side), - disc override brakes or electric on front axle

- spare wheel, - Jockey wheel, - Tare approx 540kg

He makes a very good trailer and I doubt you'll find a more competitive price. I'd recommend 2500kg rated axles and springs though with a GTR - the GTM includes the trailer's weight so it really only leaves you 1460kg carrying capacity with the standard 2000kg GTM trailer. And go with override brakes - they're much better than electric. One last tip - never use retreads on tandem axle trailers - they will blow. Pay the extra and get some cheap new light truck tyres.

    • Before I commit to it as I already have the wastegate off the car, would you change it to the 9psi spring instead of the 12, or whack it back on now and try your suggestion?   Edit: Actually I might just swap the spring and see what the logs say after another few pulls, as we know it's still spiking without the Mac valve in the picture so I need more data without the Mac valve trying to combat the issue.
    • Sounds good Hmm suppose the main thing is, how much do you care about this car? The filler doesn't make for a very good water barrier lol. If there was a tiny little bit of rust forming now, that in 3 to 5 years time becomes obvious under the paint (starts to bubble up), would it bother you?
    • I already have the ability to datalog the voltage... what I can't do is correlate it to what the gauge is showing when I'm looking at the data at a later date. Or something like this. Except getting the oil to 125C+ involves me going 200+kmh at the track so you can imagine this is a little tricky unless I do something like note what the voltage is when I am at the top of 5th gear so I have a point to reference on. Drove car today. O2 still reading richer because hopefully not a leak instead of massive restriction I've introduced. Car really doesn't sound like a LS. It's quite strange. Pulled a bit of fuel out up top. This does potentially explain why my spark plugs looked like the car was running pretty over-rich. If I was tuning it to a ~12.7 which in reality was far richer than that in the past. It will be handy to have the dyno WB to compare my WB to to compare notes that's for sure. At this point I'm happy to just sit in the passenger seat and tune the thing given I've got about 7 million hours on the platform lol.
    • Yeah I understand you have to pay for an updated map or subscription service or something. But I can't even find a current map for Australia. My map is dated 2017, but didn't this car version still sell in Australia until 2021?   Also, just as an aside, the navigation system warns you of traffic incidences ahead.....why would they include that on a map they knew is not receiving live information. I am forever going to be warned of an incident that probably existed for 30 minutes 8 years ago.
