Yes, I am an idiot .. no spare key :rofl:

Can't find my key anywhere in the house (where it must be since my car is in the garage). What is the the deal if I cannot find the key at all ? Luckily the car is unlocked at least. Will I be able to get a replacement key from Nissan or have to get a whole new ignition barrel and key from a wrecker or something ? I really do not want to have to change all the door locks as well.

Stupid, stupid, stupid for not having a spare.

Any suggestions ?? Is there a serial number on the ingnition barrel or something that might help ??

I believe you can take your vin no and other vehicle details (like chassis no) to any nissan dealer and they can cut you a new key using the factory specs.

I haven't done so myself but worth a call to a nissan dealer.

pull your door barrel out and go to a locksmith and they cut the key to the coding of the barrel we do it at work all the time for customers .

I thought the key might have a transponder in it that would prevent a standard key from starting the car ?? Does anyone know if a standard key cut from the factory one will still start the car ?? (i.e. with no lock/unlock buttons)

Otherwise I guess I will be the guinea pig and get a key cut to the door lock barrel and see if it will work :rofl:

That wont work. Ever notice how a key wears down after use and eventually becomes just a flat edge with no bumps? Well, as the key wears so do the pins in the lock, meaning a brand new specifications key with highly accentuated edges will no work any more as the pins have also worn down to accept the worn key.

I would suggest you remove one of your door handles or the lock from the boot and go to a locksmith and get a new key cut that way.

my s1 had a factory allarm fitted but i had to get an australian approved one fitted. you may have a factory fitted allarm. i had a nissan sticker on the boot window but any alarm can be fitted to overide factory and work as the primary allarm, and central locking. hope u find your key. ps if u find it a copy cost 10 bucks

Theres a 4 digit number on every key. (it may be on the barrel as well), could also be on FAST?

Just quote the number to a reputable locksmith and he will cut it using the Nissan database.

no actual key required. (yes this means there are only 10,000 key combinations)

Some compliance shops feel it's prudent to grind the number off the key.

Our number is ground off our key, but it's in really good conditon so I'm just going to get some spares cut off the one we have.

Also, there should be a 4 digit number printed or stamped on the lock barrels. Just get that and get a key cut from the code, instead of taking out the whole lock!

The one on eBay Australia? That one doesn't have the central locking remote control on it, it's just a key with a Nissan plastic cover.

dont take out the barrel, take out one of the locks from the doors or the boot lock man.

BTW for anyone whos interested, you can get a mobile locksmith to come out and cut the key without removing any locks from the car. Takes them about 1/2 hour
