If it was for a daily only and you did not really car about much else other than reliability and fuel economy I would go for a Nissan Pulsar, Toyota Corolla, Ford Laser etc.. All four cyls so rego, insurance, running costs are cheap as.

Considering you got $10k to spend though you could look at some of the Subaru Libertys etc..

I thought manuals would be better on fuel but coz of the different gear ratios. It's easier to travel at 100klm in 5th gear than it is to travel at 100klm in the same car in 3rd gear (most auto boxes on 4 cyls are 3 gears only).

no auto are 4 speed

(Gear 1) 0-20km/h

(Gear 2) 20-40km/h

(Gear 3) 40-60km/h

(Gear 4) 60km/h to infinity and beyond

I'd recommend a lancer if you want to go a lil sportier or spend a lil on mods

and the corolla if you're on a tight budget

My daily.

Cost me $6,000 from at friends neighbour who was selling it as a trade in.

Has:

leather interior

Working Tv (factory) touch screen as well

Auto

4lt 1uzfe.

not to bad on fuel as long as you dont gas it everywhere i will get same Lt/100 as my dads Sv6 commo

and i put a dvd player in it, that cost me $70.

I have a 93 nova(corolla) so +1 for the rolla :D

I was looking for a manual hatch, but a sedan auto came up at a good price (1300) so i grabbed that. Some days i like the auto, other days id rather have a manual so i can save a bit more on fuel, probably just being cheap tho lol

Autos get worse fuel economy due to the use of a torque converter arrangement over a direct (manual) clutch engagement as a form of power transmission. In addition you generally will have another gear to play with (5sp manual vs a 4sp auto) which can make it better on fuel eco but typically the final drive for both will be the same. This is provided if driven the same way same revs etc etc.

I would go with a carolla, but only downside is that they are a tad small. Depends what your using it for as a daily. If you need to ship stuff about which is bigger than ur usual run of the mill cargo, then mayb a falcodore station wagon v6/straight 6 could be a better option. The rolla tho has excellent fuel eco, reliable as anything, aircon, and can be found under 10k.

Can someone recommend a daily that has the following requirements;

- Good on fuel

- Auto

- Under 10k

- Aircon

- Not classed as a "girls car" :blink:

mitsubishi magna, '02 onward :) , they go ok, cheaper on juice than most 6cyl cars and respond well to rice :rofl:

corollas are girls cars btw :P

      Exhaust end of this month, and then tune after that whenever there is availability. Still tossing up between a pure 98 tune or a flex 98/e85 combo.  The (lack of) milage in e85 isnt great. Start to get anxiety if i go for a long drive and there arent any united servo's nearby

      I mean I can be OCD'y but this is really over the top. At that point why not just run a full wideband fuel controller? Especially if you run 3 widebands. The system works pretty well, which is trimming low load stuff to be within a few percent of the base map. Pre-engine _change_ the base map was only 1-2% off, depending on ambient temp, elevation, etc. Under load the LS is really very straightforward to tune, enough that a wideband closed loop would be overkill. If I really cared (and I hope I don't) I can always just go back to the MAF system the car actually came with. Which does all those nice calculations for me (temp, altitude, etc), now that you can buy 102mm MAF's that do not cause restrictions.

      Nah, it's different across different engines and as the years went on. R32 era RB20, and hence also RB26, the TPS SWITCH is the idle command. The variable resistor is only for the TCU, as you say. On R33 era RB25 and onwards (but probably not RB26, as they still used the same basic ECU from the R32 era), the idle command is a voltage output of close to 0.45V from the variable resistor.
