it was only a matter of time before the civic driving ricers got a legitimate skyline/GT-R instead of a Infinity G35 luxobarge. I'd say the GT-R's sales in the US are kinda critical to Nissan profiting on the who venture.

Now we just have to wait for american GT-R pundits to start popping up, fake R35 gear on ebay, a civic or accord that has an R35 "inspired" kit, some 4 foot skeletal asian chick draped all over one at "Hot Import Nights", lambo doors, scissor bonnets, neons and naaaws on an R35, and many many other wonderful side effects of giving the americans access to a japanese sports car.

On the upside, once some of the american manufacturers get stuck into the engine and car, expect some top notch performance parts and bolt on packages. Its a cut throat industry in the US, where reputation and quality are important... unlike the cheap chinese garbage in Australian "performance parts retailers".

oh i agree i think the best sales will be in the us and the aftermarket will be good. i travel to the Us alot. but still cant stand the neeeeesaaannnnn

My bosses 19 year old cousin is over from America and comes from an upper class (millions not tens of millions) family and was telling me about some of his friends and guys he went to school with. One he was telling me yesterday was that a friend of his was promised any car of his choice paid for by his parents when he got into college, his choice was of course a Neeesaaan (he says it that way aswell, im trying to teach him otherwise) R35 GTR. It was weird, i actually felt pissed off and betrayed (jealous) that anyone, especially some rich bastard who has never had to work gets an R35 for his first car. It was either the GTR or a Porsche....

American's call it a "knee-san gtarr".

The Japanese call it "nissaaan gee-tyah".

To me, they're all just different ways of saying "one helluva car". :D

I couldn't care less that it goes to america. good for them. :D

we can still buy them if we want so what's the big deal? It may mean more and longer lasting aftermarket support worldwide for all of us.

and yes, the aussie pronunciation of "nisan" (the "i" as in "kid") is wrong. it's "nee sun". just like Garage Saurus is not Garage Sawrus. It's pronounced Zaurus. but meh. I still mostly say nisan, and I still mostly say sawrus. what are you going to do?

the only thing I don't like about the new GTR is the quality (well lack of) of the paint jobs. I've probably looked at about a dozen of them now and they all had pretty ordinary paint jobs. it was especially evident on the red ones I've seen as the lack of metallic in the pain meant the orange peel was plain to see. I guess that's why they have a $3,000 option to have your car painted by hand, presumably sans orange peel.

Look on the bright side. He'll crash it within 6 months (probably within 6 days) and we'll get to see the R35 GTRs cabin structural integrity. Nothing like real life crashes & dumb humans to demonstrate how a car (or more importantly its occupants) survives a collision.

I'll back that up. I've got quite a few American parts on my 350Z (filter, intake manifold parts) and the fitment and quality are excellent. A lot of them are still made in China, but the US retailers have the purchasing power to enforce more adequate QC than we do.

And I find it a lot easier to source parts from the US than Japan. For starters they're English speaking so its easier to read their web sites. Also, parts for the Z came out faster from US aftermarket companies than Japan.

The R35 is going to have the same issues I had when I bought my Z in 03 - as a "brand new" engine and chassis, there were no legacy parts on the market so you had to wait for companies to engineer something. With America's buying power and current enthusiasm for the "Jay Dee Em" scene, it means that the GT-R will get more parts, faster, than if it was just built for RHD-only markets.

Don't be. Its pretty negative, and when you think about you'll realise it makes little sense.

Yeah, most of us weren't born with silver spoons in our mouths but I'm not going to begrudge someone else for doing something that takes nothing away from me. I'd be envious, and wish I had one, but I'm not going to feel like the world has slighted me over it.

It seems to be a Nissan-wide thing. The Z's paint is rubbish as well. It chips so much easier than other cars in its class, and at 1500kg its not like they should be worried about saving a kg or two by using fewer coats.

that's cos the Z was designed in california by some indian dude from the UK. most of the R&D for the 350Z was done in the US, which meant that manufacturers had access to information before release. R35's a japanese design and developed product, so it'll be a little slower.

Really? I was watching BMI's 350Z Shock, and the interview they had with the project manager implied that the car was very Japanese.

It was styled in the US, but the impression I've had from various sources is that the FM platform (and the specific Z33 / V35 implementations) was engineered in Japan.

Sounds almost identical to Clarkson's quote on Top Gear.....where he also said the VQ35DE was a Renault engine.
