Hi,

just wondering if any of you guys can tell me how a breather system works for coolant. I understand that its used if your turbo core is higher than the radiator (which i think mine is), but i dont know where to run the lines. Pics would be useful too.

its good to run them on just about any engine especially the RB26 and aftermarket plenum'd 2jz's, i will post up some pics of it installed on the driftcar in my sig.

bottom line goes to lower rad hose. Make sure the swirl pot is the highest part of the cooling system. In supras it usually needs to be in the back right side of the bay. Ignore the air in the lines on the supra, it was before the recovery bottle was plumbed up.

In reference to to the second highest hose on the reservoir bottle, where abouts on the engine (RB26) does this attach to? It looks like it attaches to that cast water tube thing on which the injector wiring loom sits. This is where you bleed the system when replacing the coolant. Is that correct?

Also, do you just make up a short piece of pipe with a nipple on it to place in the bottom radiator hose?

yeah the kits come with a nipple that fits in where the bleeder goes and its works fine, in fact i have stopped doing the crazy three bleeder setup with custom AN fittings in favour of this setup for all but the wildest setups as it seems to work perfectley. as fr the lower hose just go into autobarn and get a DRIFT radiator hose adapter ($19 ish)and it will take about five mins to install.

below is the greddy equiv but at twice the price, plus i like the drift one as its black.

I was actually thinking of doing the whole Earls fittings with braided hose thing (massive overkill i know) just because it looks good. Have you seen the price of Earls fittings and braided hose from the States at the moment, especially with the dollar the way it is!

Anyway, just one more thing, can you see a problem with me mounting the reservoir on the passenger side of the engine bay, just near the shock tower? Ive got an oil breather and fuel reg on the other side, hence no room. Obviously the lines will be longer, but the reservoir will be higher than the turbo core. Not sure if youre aware of the sizes, but do you think dash 6 would be satisfactory. (Thats the last question i promise).

I'm in two minds about the return to the bottom radiator hose . If you can get the header tank/swirlpot high enough above the radiators top tank it may not be necessary . You'd just have to be sure that all the bleeds went ito the header tank down low . Those pics show some up high but I don't think its necessary because bubbles nearly always rise through fluid if its still or slow moving .

If this is all about preventing steam traps with high mounted turbos then some value in a high mount manifold has to be not sitting the turbo any higher than absolutely necessary IMO .

I just got my engine in and measured the distance from the floor to the turbo core, and then from the floor to the radiator overflow, and the turbo core sits about 40 - 50mm lower than the radiator overflow. Does this mean that a swirl pot would be of no benefit to me at all in preventing air in the system?

I'm in two minds about the return to the bottom radiator hose . If you can get the header tank/swirlpot high enough above the radiators top tank it may not be necessary . You'd just have to be sure that all the bleeds went ito the header tank down low . FYI the bottom rad hose is the MOST important one........ without it it does squat.
