Hi folks,

Only new to the site so thought I'd say hi first! :D I'm from Ireland (Dublin) and am searching most of the english-speaking globe (cause I don't speak Japanese ) for info on the VQ25 & its capabilites with a view to doing an engine-swop from a CA18DET (from a Nissan 200SX S13) to the VQ25DET & eventually make it a DETT! :)

A friend guided me to this site as there seems to be a good few people on here with Stageas & the engine in question as you know wasn't exactly made for very long so the more people I can find that have them the better! :)

Has anyone on here modified or knows of anyone who has modified a VQ25 to produce some decent power or who has swopped things like inlet plenums, exhaust manifolds, turbos etc on them? I'm trying to source both the engine & performance parts for it at the moment.

Have not seen or found much info on the VQ25DET, not through lack of seaching though!!! But it's the same block as the VQ35NEO is it not? If so best bet is to get the VQ35NEO motor as there is heaps of performance stuff for them.....there are also Twinturbo kit's available.

HEY mate good luck with the swap post pics when done please be interested in how it goes. and those engine wont be cheap i bet .

The engines I'm not too sure about yet, trying to find management at the moment. I know VQ30DET's are cheap enough but I want the smaller capacity one to start with, then I can start looking at interchangeable parts etc.

Same bottom-end yeah, but it's the head & the fact that it's the smaller cc that matters to me because of the tax-system over here which is based on the cc of your engine, not the emissions (for now) or anything else. So for example I'm paying €539 per year for a 2L now, a 2.5L is €821/961 depending which side of the 2500cc mark you are, & 3L + is €1343! Multiply those numbers by 1.5 & you'll get the rough OZD equivalent & that's before you put fuel in the tank! Oh, & those figures just increased by 9%, 11% & 11% respectively there the other week so you can see why I want to keep the engine's original cc low. :)

Has anyone even seen engine management or any performance parts for these at all? There must be some somewhere that aren't in Japanese??

sounds like the people who designed your tax system hadn't heard of forced induction. You telling me that you could have a 5L v8 and a 2.5L turbo putting out the same power (and possibly the same emissions) and yet the v8 costs heaps more?? sounds like turbos are the go there :P

the translation sucks, but the guts of it is, Phoenix Power in Japan have been making some pretty impressive gains with this engine with just turbo and FMIC so I don't think the engines are THAT weak in the bottom end.

350kW is a pretty decent outcome IMO

Yep! Seems so... & all the lads in the US & UK are wondering why I want to keep the cc as low as I do! :) For the moment, I'm not complaining!

Lol! Now I understand why it's so hard to find any info on these! :D

Thanks for that link - I'll have a look & see if I can get anything from "Modified M35's" on Google but so-far seems fruitless. ;) No-one on here uprated them at all, no? Does anyone know how much the bottom-end can take before melting?

A quick search on these forums showed up some previous posts on the same subject:

Cheers for that DaveB! Only issue I've found is in looking for internals for it like rods/pistons etc or even thresholds for how far you can push the standard internals, same thing with the HG or even if someone makes a metal head gasket?
