Hi,

Has anyone done this cryogenic hardening on any engine components - I have just been reading an article on it in an old Zoom - The theory makes sence, but I understand it is still relatively new in Aus. The mention a mob in Revesby that does it - Cryotuff or something ??

Calling out for any real life experiences as I am 'thinking' of doing this to some of my engine bits during the rebuild process.

I spose the bits to do are : Block, Crank, Valves, Springs, Rods, Bolts - (assume forges pistons don't need it)

The article in zoom was pretty good, i guess the only info you are missing is performance increases on a similar engine. I'd suggest its minimal, but in terms of a high end engine it would be worth wile, and a race car would be noticable because every small bit counts.

Tony, are you just going Cryotuff or do you linish aswell ?? FIIK ???

I'll take a look on google - Actually I did, but it didn't turn up much - but I'll try again.

Cams

Valves & Springs

Head

Rods & Bolts ?

What about bearings ??

And what about the new bits you buy ?? Do you do these too or not neccessary ???

Tony, I reckon I am going Arias Forged and Eagle Rods, maybe Carillos. I wanna build it tuff and strong cause I wanna hang onto the car for a fair bit longer.

On some components it doesn't do all that much - but it certainly does not hurt. Obviously parts under low stress do not benefit.

It seems to be that you can do them on new or used bits. They said it would be no problem treating the existing crank, cams.

For the money, it's a bargain.

    • Ok, still waiting for a date to get the cams installed on the MX5, why so long, because MX5 Mania has received a few new sets of different cams with different specs for the MZR and are currently trialling them, and working out what is best for 2.5 "powers" with stock internals, in the end if I go bigger than the Kelford stage 1 cams I'll need to look at the valve springs  Hopefully I'll get the news on them next week As for the boot of the car getting fixed, I hopefully pick it up early next week, I was sweating on picking it up yesterday but, meh, it was not to be, so ne weekend cruising for me
    • Ok got some old tyres for you guys...my car has been sitting around un-driven for about 6 years now. I had it on the original rims with the shitty compliance tyres it got it with back in 2006, which were manufactured in 2004... Sidewalls eventually rotted and split open, obviously no air in them and the rims were holding the car up. Just swapped them with some 17" Work rims and tyres which are probably 10+ years old too but at least holding air
