I've got my original R33 s2 bonnet sitting in my room and would like to remove the small water spray part from the bonnet without breaking/scratching anything.

Reason being - i've now got a carbon bonnet and would like to install them on it.

Any hints/tips would be great (before I apply the brute force approach next weekend).

Thanks for the help.

Mark

I tried pulling out the stock ones.. there is a plastic plate that holds it in there - but you might have to remove the sound/head foam to get to it..

i didn't want to use the brute force approach for fear of scratching (quite likely), and there didn't look like any easy way to get them out without twisting them :P

Did you managed to get them off predator?

I dont recall any plate on/near them, mine just seem to be a clip on the underside of the bonnet. My lack of a decent set of plyers prevented me from taking them off.

Do you think any sort of aftermarket spray will fit? I might just not bother with the old ones...

  • 2 weeks later...

MRK25T,

if you havent got them off yet, and dont have the plyers then just get a screw driver and push the tab underneath the bonnet to remove. should have to force it much at all, took me 5 seconds to do!!!

currently undergoing a full respray!!

oh well good luck

Mud - I got the carbon bonnet from UAS (www.gtr.com.au) about 2 weeks ago at the open day they had. Nick, Tosh, Carlo, etc. took my old bonnet off and put the new one on while I waited.

Craved - I haven't had a chance to have a nother go at the sprays yet. My bonnet is in my room at my parents place but i'm living with my girlfriend elsewhere.

I'll give it a go with the screw driver Saturday arvo after I finish work at Maccas.

What does it cost to get a full respray in normal metallic?

Mark

MRK25T,

well really depends on what you do your self!!!!

Only costing me $1500 with 2pac paint and pearl + a little air brushing..... but that is a mate doing that......

Most of the price for a full respray comes from actually preparing the car, rubbing back etc....

So when i lost my licence 3 months ago... i did it all my self, nearly finished after 2.5 months of weekend work, would have been quicker but i'm making my own side skirts and pods so that has taken heaps of time.....

3 weeks to go til i see if it was worth it :)

yeah $1500 --- paint and painter

thats all i had to pay for!

helps when you know people in that field, and take the time to do things your self! --(not that i had much driving to do :) )

the spray booth is not yet factored in -- if i cant get one

will have to hire for $400

btw MRK25T

think i saw you working on that bonnet at UAS, was there to pick up parts.. how'd you get the bonnet home?

    • Thanks for your insight, it being basically useless will impact my decision for sure. I thought it may help the engine breath better I guess. But then again, I have also been told that tuning an RB20DE is also not worth it. Exactly, we follow EU Regulations. There is a bit more leeway on older vehicles. My Porsche 924 came without a cat from factory and managed to pass, they still mentioned that I have quite high emissions on it though.
    • My apologies, I stand corrected. Thanks for registering to mention this! And thank you for actually reaching out to the council to clarify. This is the sensible thing to do and the opposite of what I was alluding you were doing. I may have seen too much outrage and hate being fueled on the internet and it has made me a somewhat cynical old man. Sometimes it is easy to forget that there are real people behind websites and accounts. In my defence, CarExpert and CarExplore do read quite similarly at a glance. I shall try and do better in the future. (Please stick around to get the latest scoops on dealing with old Nissan shitboxes )
    • Don't bother. The poor little RB20 doesn't make enough gas flow to challenge the flow capabilities of even the littlest cat, and you won't make any extra power, and all you'll do it soot up your rear bumper. Plus....is Malta not runing under Euro regs?
    • Hey Daniel, sorry to hear that and thanks for posting up for us at a really hard time I only knew SmoothLine through the forums, we never met as we are based in different states, but when he was most active on here he was quite a while back so not many of the current crowd might remember him. I am pretty sure he was active in the Queensland SQU club but that is defunct now too (times are changing and we are all getting older). Farewell SmoothLine!
    • Turns out depending on whether the car was equipped with TCS or not there are different signals coming to the dash, meaning there are different speedo clusters.  Wired in a speedo calibrator box from aliexpress and now works fine.
