Hey fellas,

Got a real big problem here. I bought a 180sx from VIC and it was registered there until about 2 months ago. I am about to get it registered in NSW but when I gave the VIN to the RTA they recon it was imported into AUS as a dismantling/parts car only and so cannot be registered in NSW ever!! They say that VIC ROADS for some reason register these without a problem but they wont do it in NSW (RTA).

Anyone know if this is true, Ive spoken to 2 people at the RTA and they both tell me the same. Apparently it is because it has V97 in the VIN and any VIN's with this number in them are blocked so they cannot get passed the rego stage in their system. Here is the VIN (with the last 6 digits replaced with x)

6T91MPV91X2xxxxxx

What confuses me is the fact that it has a green compliance plate, with an approval number, an MA category, the date? (11/99), the VIN, who it was complianced by (Graham Docker & Assoc) and a 5 digit number at the end.

It looks like a standard VIN to me with the words "This vehicle was manufactured by Graham Docker & Associates Pty Ltd to comply with the motor vehicle standards act 1989 low volume procedures"

How can this be? Doesnt this mean it is complied? It also has ADR approved seatbelts, an instrument panel dimmer etc- Does anyone know if this is the case?

Is there anyone else who has V97 in their VIN and has had it registered in a state other than VIC?

Help Please!!

Talk to Graham Docker & Associates Pty Ltd, they will be able to tell you.

Personally I would reregister it in Vic, right now. Don't fight about an unregistered vehicle, time is not your friend. Get it registered, then you have 12 months to sort it out.

Cheers
