Well, I booked my GTiR in this week to have the engine pulled out for a freshen up at the local mechanic. Should make my little car a bit more competitive next year and give a few gtr skyrines a run for their money :D hahaha

So while I was sitting around, I noticed the workshop has an N14 Pulsar 1.6L shopping trolley sitting up the back of the workshop with the bonnet up, when I noticed that the engine bay did not look quite right. Sure enough, the workshop has fitted or should I say squeezed a 3.5L V6 into the engine bay for another customer. Apparently it is from a Nissan Maxima and is running a GTiR type 5 speed front wheel drive gearbox pumping out some decent power with a few breathing mods. I was pretty much in awe, as this would give a few competition spec Golf R32's a run for their money if it ever gets traction :D

As I was trying to wipe the drool from the floor, one of the mechanics then ushers me into the back shed to show me what I can only describe as a wet dream. Sitting on a forklift pallet is the same V6 motor, with a cable shift gearbox which is reportedly a 6 speed and apparently a Murano transfer case. The crazy thing is, it has one of the biggest turbos I have ever seen mounted just next to the gearbox at the front of the motor.

The mechanic who showed me did not know specifics but apparently, this setup is bound for a GTiR as the V6 motor weighs the same as a SR20 motor and the Murano transfer case will allow the GTiR to remain AWD.

My regular tuner and question answerer has been out of reach for a few days, so being a bit of a newbie to this sort of thing, my questions to you guys is:

Could either engine combo really ever be street registered? Like a 75% increase in capacity is crazy! Don't they have rules for that sort of thing!!!!!!!!!!

What sort of power potential would this combo make?! What sort of boost could the V6 run?

What is the life expectancy of the driver? roflmao

Does anyone see any major reasons why this would not work. The reason I ask, is that as my car is having the enigne pulled out... I was thinking about making an offer on this setup ;) ;)

Any help/advice would be appreciated

Yeah, Id be running with the driver will live forever. The chances of the car staying together for long enough for him/her to kill themselfs I would think would be rather slim.

But think, people buy R32 golfs and turbo them... Now R36 golfs are coming out, same thing will happen there. Some of those are running a good 500hp+

National Code of Practice documents

number 3 section LA - Engines

go to page 18 there is a max cc capacity guide

say GTiR weighs 1200kg

max capacity = 1200*3 = 3600cc's in turbo guise

or 1200*5 = 6000cc's in n/a form

if its weight is over 800kg and under 1100kg then its times 2.75 and 4 respectively

GTiR definitely weighs over 1100kg, so it looks like the boosted V6 could be legal. I guess it all comes dwon to which competition rally or tarmac class I can put this sort of thing into.

i've got a twin turbo V6 with awd. :D

But arent the Mitsubishis only a TT 2.5L and apparently make the same peak torque value as the non turbo Nissan V6 motor :)

An all alloy V6 weighing the same as an all alloy inline 4?

Interesting......

I thought about that too but was told as the V6 has a lot more empty space inside the motor, so it needs less metal mass. Was told the whole V6 engine weighs around 150kg with flywheel and clutch fitted. SR20 weighs about the same according to my research.

14.2 @ 151km/hr in a bog stock legnum says peobably not......

I would like some more info on this as it comes to hand though....

*looks meaningfully at pulsar SSS in driveway* :D

almost 1000rpm earlier? I wouldn't say that is the same. Put them next to each other over 400m and I know which one I would have money on. (even if the car is as ugly as sin :) )

An SR is not all alloy. Its a cast iron block hence why it is so heavy and why an all alloy v6 can weigh similar.

according to this the sr was a all alloy motor

Released in October 1989 (for the 1990 model year), the U12 Bluebird SSS ATTESA Limited debuted Nissan’s new all-alloy, twin-cam 16-valve in-line four with a turbocharger hung off the side. In the U12 SSS, the SR20DET runs an 8.5:1 static compression ratio and its ECCS management system (which uses a hot-wire airflow meter and knock sensor) fires a set of four ignition coils and 370cc injectors. The standard turbocharger is a Garrett-based T25G working with a small top-mount air-to-air intercooler and boost pressure is set to around 7 psi.

The Nissan V6 torque curve is apparently pretty flat, so it would still have similiar torque figures at 4000rpm. The V6 also make 12kw more peak power at a lower rpm.

I was reading about a few guys with Nissan Senters over in the USA who are running a similiar conversion and getting mid 12's on non turbo front wheel drive setups with near stock conversions. Give the Honda VTAC brigade a run for their money, hahaha

SR20 motor is definitely all alloy, I was looking at my motor this afternoon. The N14 1.6L Pulsar motor is a cast block as well.

Also, a correction to the U12 article listed. They did not run four coils on the U12 motor, it was only the rear wheel drive SR20DET's that ran multi coil ignition until the super sexy SR20VET motor was produced.

took the non turbo v6 pulsar out around lunchtime for a test drive with its owner. all I can say is that things is as smooth as jessica alba's body :)

pulls from stupidly low revs like a 15 year old with a box of porn videos. would love to take this thing to a track event one day a nd see how it handles and accelerates out of corners. would give the commondoor v6 guys and some of the v8 owners a shoick watching a car that looks like their wives grocery cart passing them.

Bit of an update for you all. Beware of a stock looking red N14 Pulsar Q with the only give away being a V6 badge under the guard blinker. The owner had it tuned a few days ago for 193.3Kw@wheels and intends on submitting it to Zoom in the next few weeks once he gets the rest of it finished.
