I have a R33 GTST 1.5, the engine has done around 160,000km's

There is literally no mod, all stock standard except a 3inch exhaust ......

what would be the next upgrade i need to do to gain extra KW??

what manual boost controller would you recommend??

How much psi can the RB25det handle with the stock??

How much psi can i handle with the stock intercooler?

Turbo back exhaust if you only have a cat back, then panel/pod filter. Cut and ground the boost solenoid. But before anything else... Search! This has been covered many many many many many many times

if i could start all over again, id start with engine management, depending on your plans for the car are, then fmic , a good front pipe (turbo to cat) panel fiter with some air box mods to get more outside air in. oh and change yur fuel pump if its still stock :(... or do a search :)

Hi there Glenn.

If you take the time to read this thread:

In particular this thread "What Mods to do first":

You'll be well on your way :)

R34 side mount intercooler $150ish

r32 wastegate actuator (holds a safe 10-12psi) $40

K&N panel filter $100ish

Apexi safc fuel computer $250 second hand + tune $150

Maybe an MBC if the r32 actuator doesn't hold the desired boost $35

Should see 200kW with this combination.

id be making sure that your timing belt, tensioner and water pump had got replaced at its 100,000k service...otherwise that would be the very first thing i would do before potentially giving that vehicle more power considering its kms.

with mine i did mods in different stages. first i had a full 3.5" exhaust (3" is fine), larger front mounted intercooler, k&n filter and a bleed vavle boost controller set at 10psi = 175kw rw

later i got a power fc computer, bosch 040 fuel pump and tune = 204kw rw

now i got a hiflow t3/t4 turbo, z32 afm, and a nismo fuel pressure reg =241kw rw

later i plan on splitfire coilpacks and 480cc injectors for 250+kw

Hi Guys

I just recently purchase a r34 side mount intercooler and what i have realised is, its very responsive now........i notice it in a hot day....

Now apparently from my mechanic i only have a cat back 3inch exhaust....i dont have a turbo back dump pipe unfortunately

so my question is, whats best for my next purchase?

turbo dump pipe?

Manual boost controller + boost gauge to 11psi??

or

hunt around for an R32 wastegate & actuator

im tempted to go with the MBC + boost gauge to 11psi.... as that will give me more KW....

whats your thoughts??

Playing the bad man forum patron ... :)

If I went to a bird watching forum, I would assume the question "best cheapest binoculars to start off with" or "best, cheapest paint roller that gives uber even coverage, for a newbie" on a niche interior painting forum, would have been asked before.

Hitting that search button with a ruthless "enjoy sitting in wee drenched jeans" manic depressive anxt, will provide a wealth of experiences.

If you springboard off other ppls experiences (Like Sambo33) plus have a little desire to tinker, you can SKIP technical, and fiscal issues others have had when modifying; hence the use of a forum. Don't get caught up using fish tank pumps for blow by excavation or Korean HID's when you coulda had those sway bar's or high flowed turbo.

Don't mean to be condescending, im just an a55hole who trys to tell it how it is should be :D

    • Very nice - I also have a 92 GTST and hardly see any others around these days

    • I think you're really missing the point. The spec is just the minimum spec that the fuel has to meet. The additive packages can, and do, go above that minimum if the fuel brand feels they need/want to. And so you get BP Ultimate or Shell Ultra (or whatever they call it) making promises to clean your engine better than the standard stuff....simply because they do actually put better additive packages in there. They do not waste special sauce on the plebian fuel if they can avoid it. I didn't say "energy density". I just said "density". That's right, the specific gravity (if you want to use a really shit old imperial description for mass per unit volume). The density being higher indicates a number of things, from reduces oxygen content, to increased numbers of double bonds or cyclic components. That then just happens to flow on to the calorific value on a volume basis being correspondingly higher. The calorific value on a mass basis barely changes, because almost all hydrocarbon materials have a very similar CV per kg. But whatever - the end result is that you do get a bit more energy per litre, which helps to offset some of the sting of the massive price bump over 91. I can go you one better than "I used to work at a fuel station". I had uni lecturers who worked at the Pt Stanvac refinery (at the time they were lecturing, as industry specialist lecturers) who were quite candid about the business. And granted, that was 30+ years ago, and you might note that I have stated above that I think the industry has since collected together near the bottom (quite like ISPs, when you think about it). Oh, did I mention that I am quite literally a combustion engineer? I'm designing (well, actually, trying to avoid designing and trying to make the junior engineer do it) a heavy fuel oil firing system for a cement plant in fricking Iraq, this week. Last week it was natural gas fired this-that. The week before it was LPG fired anode furnaces for a copper smelter (well, the burners for them, not the actual furnaces, which are just big dumb steel). I'm kinda all over fuels.
    • Well my freshly rebuilt RB25DET Neo went bang 1000kms in, completely fried big end bearing in cylinder 1 so bad my engine seized. No knocking or oil pressure issue prior to this happening, all happened within less than a second. Had Nitto oil pump, 8L baffled sump, head drain, oil restrictors, the lot put in to prevent me spinning a bearing like i did to need the rebuild. Mechanic that looked after the works has no idea what caused it. Reckoned it may have been bearing clearance wrong in cylinder 1 we have no idea. Machinist who did the work reckoned it was something on the mechanic. Anyway thats between them, i had no part in it, just paid the money Curiosity question, does the oil system on RB’s go sump > oil pump > filter > around engine? If so, if you had a leak on an oil filter relocation plate, say sump > oil pump > filter > LEAK > around engine would this cause a low oil pressure reading if the sensors was before the filter?   TIA
