scathing
ive always said, i wanted the V-spec to be a RWD version with both manual and twin clutch auto options, with the RWD will change the weight distribution, meaning gear box mounted back so far isnt needed, hence it can run up to the engine, hence the possibility of a manual option That wouldn't be a minor job, though. Since the car was designed with a transaxle in mind, the driveshaft tunnel won't have a space for a bell housing near the driver's seat. That would mean floorpan modifications, which means structural modifications. That also means your crash tests for the regular GT-R wouldn't apply to the V-Spec, and so you'd have to comply them separately. While Nissan is charging a mint for the GT-R, they're still not a prestige low-volume manufacturer and so they won't be able to get away with making two similar cars that require individual homologation. funkymonkey
I don't know how the GT2/3 manages to achieve such good cornering ability and yet be quicker.oh... i don't know... maybe the fact that it has a rear mounted engine and better weight balance and distribution? minix3
What's the weight difference between the GT2 and 911 turbo? (can't be bothered looking it up ) The GTR is 1740kg.. 80 more than the Porche Porsche have had over 30 years to perfect the 911and it still isn't perfect...... X2.. and its not like they spent the last 30 years modifying the exterior if Nissan wanted the GTR to be a Nurburgring warrior, they wouldnt have made it weigh over 9000 kilograms..... Well the car was pretty focused on the course since nissan said they wouldn't actually continue with the production of the car unless it was able to complete the track in less than 8 minutes. and as stated before, it's competitor was always the 911 turbo not the GT. scathing
If/when Nissan releases their hardcore, stripped out versions, then it might be a competitor for the GT2. With rumours of a weight reduced "Evo" spec, if that thing gets more herbs out of the engine then they might aim it straight at the GT2. If/when Nismo releases an R-Tune or Z-Tune then it'd probably demolish the GT2's time. Even an S-Tune would give it a good run for its money. But, the base R35 GT-R was meant to be "luxurious" etc to be a true competitor to the 911 Turbo as an all round supercar. That it isn't as fast as the more focused GT2 isn't a bad thing. After all, no-one complains that both cars are still over half a minute slower than the production car lap record because the car that holds it is basically a bathtub with an engine and wheels. wrxhoon
oh... i don't know... maybe the fact that it has a rear mounted engine and better weight balance and distribution? Better weight balance/distribution on any 911 Porka???? I don't think so dude, they are all rear end heavy, even the turbo awd is very light at the front. Here are a few facts about the Porkas GT2 kerb weight 1440 kg !!! This where it has it on the new R and the other one is power, GT2 has 390kw and 580nm of torque . Even the heavy weight 911 turbo only weighs 1585 kg with 353 kw and 620 nm of torque and when you push the button she will pump out 680 nm for a few seconds . As for the GT3's not a lot of power here ( around 305 kw and 405 nm, more torque than any n/a production engine per lt, even more than F430) but only weigh 1375 kg !!! The new R is at least 300 kg heavier, thats a lot of beef to cart around so the new R must be very well balanced car to be able to mix it up with any of these Porkas. In my view the R is a direct competitor to the 911 turbo and according to reports it holds its own on the Porka, I must say one thing, the turbo Porka feels like she has no turbo lag at all and she has heaps of power from about 1800 rpm up, all the way to the the red line, hopefully the R feel s the same. lingeringsoul
pretty sure the RR layout give the advantage of better traction due to the weight of the engine at the back pushing the car down......................................................thats what tsuchiya said........... Beer Baron
forget Tsuchiya. gerry's son owns one so I'm pretty sure he knows what he's talking about.... my freind who put his GT3 cup car into the wall at eastern creek would tend to agree that such a rear bias can have it's problems... scathing
Oh, well, if you're doubling the price of the standard model then fair enough. But if the standard model is going to be AUD$150K, then the V-Spec would cost $300K. That puts it line ball in price with a 911 Turbo, so it had better go faster than a Veyron. I've only ever bought Nissans and I love them, but even I would baulk at paying $300K for one. Come on V-Spec and V-Spec II or Evo, or whatever the f*ck I feel the hay-day of 90's japanese sport coupes returning.
