Anyone know what this is (it sits in my boot connected to the battery then there's a wire running of it which runs through a hole in the boot and in through the car) if anyone knows would be interesting to find out exactly what it is. Cheers.

It is a relay. Nice heavy duty one commonly used as a pilot relay for starter motor solenoids on diesel motors.

Can't think of a reason why someone would use one in a car.. is it supplying power to an amp setup or similar?

I've had to replace them on train motors. Also they are succeptable to random operation by vibration if they are mounted any way other than the correct orientation.

Yep, it is a big clunker hi current capacity soleniod. Got one on the L'cruiser, no sign of battery been mounted in back in previous life by any chance? I ask 'cos that solenoid looks like it is only half wired imho.

cheers GW

Heller44-the car looks like it has had a huge sound system, (amp wires etc still left) but i am not running any high power sound system at the moment.

260tech-the battery is mounted at the back of car, i guess il get it disconnected in near future as there isn't much use for it.

Cheers for the help guys.
