Rb20 Power Proplems

Recommended Posts

true, im still runnin the vl 5spd box n id say my ratios are quite a bit longer.....

They arent much different, its all in the diff gears, the the fact your speedo probably isnt that accurate either, most 20yr old speedo's are out substancially over 120km/h

im really frusterated at the moment after spendin 5 grand on gettin the motor happin to do a 15.7,,,, head aches lol................ so wat should i do first???????????? i dont have tons of money so i can only do 1 thing at time thanxs scott

did any1 watch the drag video, do u think it sounds good???

There is a guy in Sydney who is running 12.8 i think with a std RB20, just with a 2nd hand HKS 2530. I have noticed VLs are typically quicker as there rear ends hook up better.

If you look through a search os some of the RB20 threads in Forced Induction section you will see the car i am referring to. I just cant remember the users forum name at the minute,.

I can understand your disappointment, but RB20s really arent much chop with std turbos. a 2871 or 2530 will work nicely. Also maybe consider an EMS or Microtech rather then Power FC, as Power FCs are rare and expensive. And woudl want to check that it will work with your modded loom first.

15.1 (think it was about 94mph) 2.something 60ft pod & cat-back

i was spewin cause i lost to my mates vlT and got into the whole suspension set ups with a mate who builds drag cars(not the vlT owner) he said id have to move my mounting points of my suspension to achieve a better launch,as std spec is more suited to cornering whereas the vl's suspension is better suited to straight line because of the angle the shocks and springs sit at.

i gave up on that, ill just get more power.

correct me if im wrong but ive been under the impression that auto's dont read accuratly up top?

would be interested to find out if its a myth or not.

HAHAHA i just noticed your quote under you sig Bubba,,,,nice;)

god itd depressing 5g later for 134rwkw, i feel like puttin a gun to my head LOL o well as ned kelly said such is life lol

DiD any1 on here have there black r32 skyline at the motorplex a few weeks ago cause im curious if ya on these forums

id love to have 183rwkws... i noticed i think i got the only dyno sheet in hp... it would have felt way more depressing to see 134 pop up on the dyno reed out........

how much hp does a blocked cat cost ur car in power?? cause the cat was blocked at the time of dyno

Edited by trikdoutvl

dont ask me how,but some people have rb30's underneath their rb20 heads.

my tuner done 1 for a customer in his vl and it was getting good times.(cant remember exactly)

YES, i reckon a blocked cat would rob you of power, not sure exactly how much.

id get it dynoed again after you fix the cat problem.

cat has been replaced now with a stainless steel hiflow but the cars still slow so caint of helped that much...

ill get it dyno wen i got computer n rb25 turbo that way hopefully have a nice increase

another mod i forgot to mention was a vl turbo fuel pump,, apperently there ment to be real good.....

i ment getting a rb30 motor instead of a rb20 fatazz lol not actually trying combine the 2 lol........ i used to have a 270bhp vlt rb30et, went hard as hell but the rb30s sound gay compaired to skyline motors IMO

RB30 + twin cam head + screaming to 7k causes the hairs to stand up on my kneck.

And to rub it in a little it makes 150rwkw at 3000rpm. :S

In all seriousness; if you want it to be reasonably quick with your setup (diff ratio etc) your going to have to drop an rb30 back in it.

Why not do the RB30 N/A turbo thing? They work well and if tuned make good solid reliable power.

Then a decent cam, valve springs and a larger huffer and flick it to 7k with the sohc head.

nar man i wouldnt go back to a 30 now, ive done the big end bearings in 3 rb30 motor n dont even get me started on the tick tick of the lifters.......

rb25 turbo n a computer n all should be sweet....

on the plus side the car pulls really nice burnouts n listening to a rb20 humming 6000rpm doing burnout is like music to my ears lol..

i defenatley think i need computer.......... every1 says different things tho. some say safcs are good some say bad

  • 2 weeks later...

good for basic fuel and air mixtures to make more power. my r32 made 189hp with the safc2 there untuned with all the normal bolt on mods. but tuned made it to 211hp(157.5kw). i was happy with the 22hp gain from it and its also a lot smoother drive

SAFC purchase = $200 (first of the blue screen ones)

Install = $50 (if you can't follow directions and solder 5 or 6 wires)

tune = $200 ( to make changes to 8 fuel points)

Stock ECU remap = $300

it has ALOT more points at which to make changes to Fuel.

it has ALOT more points at which to make changes to Timing.

it does NOT require soldering anything.

It does not trick the signal sent from the AFM to the ECU to make the changes.

It is all factory standard looking.

there are a number of GTR's in Japan that run 9's and use stock ECU with a remap.

where can you get a remap for $300? isn't it more like $700? the first time you get it done you need to put a chip into the ecu....

cool yeh im gonna get the standard computer retuned,, i found a place in perth that does it, soo hopefully will have a tune in the next few months once the shop as a dyno....

so after market computer aint really worth it unless i got bigger turbo n injectors n all that stuff
